Didn't know where else to put this issue. Just noticed the other day that the frame has rusted through (hole about the size of a golfball) in the area behind the driver's side rear wheel of my '98 Ranger 4x4. Don't know why I'm just now noticing this, just sorta snuck up on me. Baffled and bummed because the truck is only 13 yrs. old. My questions:

Just how much of a problem do I have?

Is there a way to stop the spread?

Is there a way to reinforce the area by maybe welding pieces of steel in, or should I even bother?

Can you take a picture or it? Most likely you can Box the frame if it isn't too bad.

Otherwise it is a two piece frame and you can replace half of it.

 

Patch it and box the frame while your at it. anyone else see the Trucks! episode where they fully boxed the rangers frame and showed the flex before and after? crazy. I would defiantly do it if i had a welder at the moment.

 

So what you're saying is that it's not an unfixable issue? How much time do I have before something get's really screwed up? I'll try to get a pic ASAP.

I don't see any reason why you couldn't add some steel as long as you can weld to the existing. weld a plate over the front and back side and your frame will be twice as strong as it was. unless your whole frame is paper thin i don't see a problem.
