Should i buy?

There is a local guy selling an 86 Bronco II. He told me the truck is his friends that hes selling for him and that the only reason he is selling it is because he bought a newer truck. Im looking for a trail rig and im looking into possibly buying a B2. The truck is an Eddie Bauer edition, 130k on it, it seems to run strong but it needs brake lines, tires. Also there is a small rust hole about the size of a quarter on the roof right by the drivers side a-piller. The passenger side wheel well at the corner by the rocker panel is also rusted through. I noticed the drivers side seat brackets are rusted but not rotted. The truck comes with an extra hatch, and some interior panel parts and also 3 stock AOD B2 Trans'. Im not sure if there is a specific reason why the trans' come with it or not but according to the guy, he just bought a bunch of used parts for it in case something did happen. Hes asking $500 for all of it, what do you guys think? I have to be able to make it street legal so i can drive it to trails and such. How muc do you think the brake lines will be to replace? and the rust holes?

rust is going to be a lot of work. I had an 88 B2 that I spent lots of time and money on to get it street legal. I spent about $2K to get it street legal. new exhaust, springs, shocks, plugs, wires, fix oil leak, rusty quarter panels, o2 sensor, new interior, and others.

This passed me through inspection but I didn't get a lot of the rust fixed. It needed a new gas tank because there was so much rust in the rear above the gas tank. the Body rusted and then the gas tank rusted on the top. The frame was strong and no rust but the body really needed to be removed and have all the rust cut out of it.

If you plan on wheeling this thing for a long time prepare to do basically everything I just said. Chances are it needs it. Considering you should do most of that when you buy something that old.

As for the trannies. Those trannies suck that is why he has spares. If you drive the B2 long enough you will need to replace it atleast 1 time.

If you are going to use this as a trail slut beat it up and scrap it then I would buy it fix the brakes and put the pedal down. They are great off road and have a great turning radius.

Hell yeah...I'd buy it. Especially if he's giving you a spare A4LD for the same price. The 2.9L is peppy and they are hands down the best trail rig ever built, IMHO. If you need more info on B2's...check out www.broncoII.org
