single cab guys

what do you like/dislike about your single cab? I found a 4x4 edge with 36k miles on it for a good price and i already looked up the car-fax as well as warranty history (gotta love having friends at ford) and everything seems good but i still need to check it out next sunday to make sure the frame isn't bad since i'm in the north east.

just want to get opinions on what to prepare for in a single cab since both my rangers have been 4 door extended cabs

I had a regular cab and liked it. Didn't have any interior room, but also didn't have wind noise or leaks from the half doors.

Used to have one... it was a great first truck but no where to put anything! It's fine if you have a toolbox, tonneau cover or don't carry much with you.

I liked it at first but I won't buy a regular cab again. There is just no space and I am a big guy. I have to put stuff in the bed most of the time that I don't want there.

If you have a sliding rear window, it s much more practical to open while driving in a reg cab. I don't like the look of a lifted single cab though. I'd probably hold out for an ext cab.

I think they look better... Especially the short beds.

Could use a little more room to mount the amp but found the bed box carries everything else I need.

You don't need a lot of leg room, so that's not a problem, although the 01 on I think, had a little larger cab.

Don't have to turn the radio up as loud to fill the cab with music, lol.

You can reach the rear slider without stretching too far.

damn i didn't even think of the wind noise or leaks. thats good. Did you ever have that little top cab corner piece fall off? If i buy it, i'll be going to the junkyard and getting a few extras lol

haha yeah i felt pretty comfortable when i was testing the gauge. It doesnt have a slider though i'll have to pick one up and it indeed is a short bed. basically how your truck came when you bought it haha. Its got 4.10s according to the info i pulled from ford but i couldn't find the ring gear, just the final drive was 4.10 which is good. I'd be pissed if it was 3.73

There okay. There is enough room for little things on the inside and its not like you put anyone in the back of the extended cabs anyway. Being that your shorter it will probably be fine for you. Just get a toolbox or a tonneau and you'll be good to go.

Nice truck, get it!

I never had a problem with the corner cab piece because mine was a 1990. Just get a few extras and you'll be good to go.

oh haha and yeah if the frame is good ill probably be picking it up. the belt was replaced at 19k because it was cracking so that may mean it sat a lot. hopefully its not rusted but with that mileage im guessing an elderly person owned it and just didn't get much use.

can't wait for next sunday

Wow, I've been here before...

The truck looks great and yes just like it.

You should hav eased to drive mine but since you didn't buy that one.

I don't think there is a final drive ratio stated anywhere on the truck, just the gear ratio.
If you crawl under the truck and chk the tag on the rear cover's edge you will see the ratio for sure.

What motor, 5-sp, missed it ?

Looking at the pic, I am thinking that style looks nice, why did I change mine to steppie... Oh ya they look great too !

I hope you get it, look great and you will love the feeling of,driving an EDGE...

well since the place has lame hours, i went today at 330 after classes.

This was pretty weird. the airbag switch for the passenger side is replaced with an aftermarket one that has no key-hole which is weird. the guy tried to tell me that it has a sensor so when u sit in the seat, the light goes off. i sat there and it didn't go off and told him he was wrong and then he said it was a child safety feature from the factory and i told him he was wrong again lol.

frame wasn't too bad but this is passenger side rear

drivers rear

also through out the frame, there were like "swollen" spots as you can see in the last picture (right above). im guessing thats rust waiting to form even more. ive never seen that before. the truck definitely sat for a while. it ran great though. i found out the 3.0 has an open 8.8 behind it with 4.10 gears.

the salesman was pissing me off i was ready to yell at him but he said if i bring my buddy from ford that we are more than welcome to use their lift to look under the truck completely and do a full inspection on it. There was coolant leaking from the cap but the cap was VERY loose and thats where it looked to have dripped from, i followed the path. I'm gonna pressure test it whenever i get a chance. my friend and i are going back tonight so he can assess the frame. if that checks out well, we'll do the pressure test later this week on the cooling system.

All our work trucks are single cab... I never liked the idea of having no space in the cab for anything.... I had to keep it all in back.

I've never had an issue with leaks on my 4 door. The wind noise has never bothered me since I have a sound system, although I've never ridden in a single cab ranger on the highway.

Mine leaked from day one and Ford could never figure out why. They replaced the weatherstripping and even adjusted the door and it still leaked. It was so bad a steady stream of water came in when I went to a high pressure car wash.
