Sliding rear window replacement

Does anyone know if it is possible to replace the sliding rear window without removing the whole window from the truck??

Redneckstone Sep 5, 2005 06:17 AM

you mean just little sections no I dont think so i think it one whole unit

TBarCYa Sep 5, 2005 06:44 AM

Yeah, it's just the piece that slides.

Thanks.

its the whole unit not just the little one. unless you can get someone to get the glass for the little one and install it but im not sure thats possible either.

14"x14.5"x1/8" plexiglas, 30 minutes and a drill.... Just like new for under $20.

Pics? Does the window still actually function??LOL

TBarCYa Sep 6, 2005 11:51 AM

I'll take some pics once I get it tinted. I bought a piece of tinted plexi but it was .5" too short. It still functions normally however it does flex so you gotta be careful spraying the hose at it. I'm trying to find a piece of metal edge molding to add some strength to it. I just ran it through the carwash and it didn't seem to leak.

Yes, it does work. I had to drill 2 holes for the latch mechanism and everything works as normal.

Does anyone make a power sideing rear window ?

karrbass4life Sep 6, 2005 02:10 PM

If mine breaks imma get a regular one.

Every estimate I got was over $250 to replace the whole window which is why I figured I'd try buying a $12 piece of plexiglass and see what I could do.

Honestly, there's no reason why the slider can't be replaced by itself that I could find. The track at the botom is .5" whereas the track at the top is .75". If you had a piece of glass that was just big enough to allow for .5" to be in the lower track and .25" in the upper track, you could easily snap in a new piece of glass without any problems except that someone could possibly pop it out from the outside.

Perfect measurements for my 1998 Ranger, I ordered a piece of plexi this size from estreetplastics and it was $20.99 shipped. Fits nice and snug, I don't have a latch for it but doesn't slide around without one, stays shut nice and tight. Put in the bottom first, bent it alittle and snapped in the top part. Thanks again! Anyone know where I can get a replacement latch?

Yes, you can!!

If the link doesn't work, go to YouTube, look up BradsAutoGlass. The video name is F150 sliding rear window replacement. He actually shows you on a Ford Ranger window. Great video!
