Slip it over the needle?!
I've been searching threads trying to understand how to install the white face gauges.
I'm working on getting a Sport Trac cluster for my 95 splash, but if that falls through then I would like to get the actual white piece that lays on the original cluster. It was mentioned NOT to remove the needle because it's a hassle to get back on correctly. Some one suggested slipping it on over the needles or something like that. Now.....from what I've seen the holes in the white are way to small to fit over the needle! Am I looking at this wrong? Is there actually a way to "slip it over"?? OR should I spare the money and not even mess with it? |
On my Lightning I did a hilton boost overlay. On that one just pull the needle straight off the shaft. Push it back on.. then calibrate the guage.

you can calibrate the speedo with a AA battery. look on RPS
why not swap the whole cluster over? and not worry about switching just the white... its a 95 if the miles are not right who cares. just my opinion. i have an 03 and im on my 3rd cluster. i gave up on trying to keep the miles close. there are a ton of pictures and its only off 3-4k miles. |
By slipping the needles thru the hole, it means to align the needles to point all one direction, then put the tip of all of the needles through the holes. Slide the overlay along the needles until they reach the end, and you're gauge face will be on and aligned.
Imagine slipping a button into a hole that isn't "large enough" for the button to fit. http://img475.imageshack.us/img475/70/install23id.jpg |
Just hope you get a ST cluster. Save yourself the hassle of all the overlay garbage and eBay specials. ST clusters, you can't go wrong.
