Truck died today

Never had any major issues until today. When I left my house it ran just as good as it always does. Got to friends house he got in and as soon as I was about to put it in reverse it just died. WTF? Now when I turn the key I do not hear the fuel pump prime so i'm thinking it is dead but is there anything else I should look for under the hood that may be fried for some reason leading the pump not to work? This is weird how this just happened especially without any kinda warning at all.

Check to see if the inertia switch tripped. It should be on the passenger side to the left of the kick panel on the firewall.

Edit: when you find it push the little button on the top of it to reset it. I am assuming you checked the fuse and relay?

i had the same problem with my old '94 ranger: it suddenly just wouldn't start. it would crank, but not turn over. checked the relay, swapped the a/c relay with the fuel pump one, got it running, went to napa and got a new relay for $3.

Everything seemed to be fine when I looked at it. Didn't try swapping relays though. It's at the dealer now so they can figure it out. I kinda hope it is the fuel pump. That will be worth my $100 dollar deductable over just a bad relay. I'll tune back in later and let you guys know what they find.

Well the dealer just called and they said the problem had to do with the fuel cut off switch. It was not tripped. They said the wire harness that goes to it was very tight. Basically the wires were just a bit too short when it was made. Therefore ever since the truck was made the harness was pulling out and eventually lost contact. They have an updated harness they are gonna put in as well as a new pressure cut off switch. They have run across this before. I think there should be a recall for this.
