Why did the head gasket blow?

Also, are you sure it was a blown head gasket? I had a cracked head and had to replace the head itself.

A compression test will do you a world of good here.

Pull out and clean the spark plugs
See what the tips tell you about each cylinders condition

Head gasket "fix" can foul spark plugs so have a look, its FREE

If a cylinder misfire then you lose 1/6th your power on a V6, 2 cylinders 1/3rd the power
And the 3.0l doesn't have alot of "extra" power to lose

Yes, a vacuum gauge test or compression test would be next step

Vacuum in the intake and/or compression = Power output

It blew because the water pump went out and my girlfriend drove it

Say no more. That’s why I try to keep my cars and trucks manual tranny. Do a compression test, replace the head gasket and possibly the head and obviously fix your cooling system and you’ll be fine.

Dont let let her drive anymore either, two cents.

Slainte!
