I was changing my serpentine belt and the socket fell inside the fan shroud at the bottom. I tried to pry the shroud from the bottom to retrieve the wrench and I bent a fin on the radiator and coolant started pouring out. Do I need a new radiator. If so which years will work for mine? Just has to be 3.0L engine. I think I will go the JY.

 

yes. you just punctured the inner tubes. i have no idea what years will work

 

you could have it soldered at a radiator shop or you can solder it your self

 

thats easier said than done but it is doable. take it to a professional shop and have it repaired or buy a repaired rad

 

ive repaired dozens of radiators my self its not that hard. but a shop would be the easiest and cheapest way out if you don't have the stuff or know how to repair it yourself.

 

From now on remove the fan shroud the proper way it's just two bolts and saves you the cost of a new rad!

What about the egg yolk trick? I heard and read somewhere that if your coolant system has a slight leak, you can pour in an egg yolk and it'll plug it up.

Although i don't recall if this is a permanant or temporary fix... I'd imagine a temp fix.

 

Save yourself some cash and get a recored rad. Just as good as new.......think of it as refurbished.

 

98-07 should work, I highly doubt anything has changed.

 

you can pinch it closed the best you can with needle nose pliers, then add radiator stop leak (egg yolk made for the purpose.lol)to it. It should buy you some time.

 

I got it fixed at a radiator shop. Cost was $65. Yeah, I was swearing up and down at myself. Anyway from now on I will take the time and do things right the first time. Live and learn. Thanks all.
