Are your mudholes getting shut down??

so our local muddin' holes are getting shut down.. there's 2 spots out here that are great for mudding..

1: is a cross country ski area in the winter and trail riding for dirtbikes, quads, trucks etc. and you can go all day without hitting the same trails twice, they are closing some of the trails that have deep mudholes in them which sucks because "bilbo's bog" was the greatest and it swallowed my quad a few times years ago.

2: there's a mud hole on the powerlines about 10kms up the mountain, it was the best spot to be on may long weekend. lots of BIG trucks, dodge, ford, chevy, jeeps, toyota's they were all there.. apparently about a month ago one weekend the cops were up there on the saturday and handed out some fines and told people to leave.

there's an assload of signs at all bases of mountains(except the one up the road from me) stating that "any person or persons caught causing enviromental damage with a motorized vehicle up to and including mudbogging there will be a $100,000 fine."
thats friggin crap... now we only have a crappy mountain to run up. i think you can still wheel on the mountains with the signs just dont cause any damage and "tread lightly."

any holes getting shut down where you live??

we have an area called morton terminal. it was closed off a couple years back (put dirt mountains on the entry points) but everybody goes around them. it's between this conservation area and an area called brighton beach that has a powerplant and some other industrial things. they might be closing it all off for good if they put in a second border crossing.

there's a gravel pit about 300 yrds from my house, which is apparently owned by the highway i thought it was CSRD district but its not. and they took an escavator (sp?) and dug down and piled it up. haha like thats gonna stop us and they put big friggin rocks on the top. a friend up there with his beat to hell s10 (trucks been to hell and back many times, been jumped rolled etc) and pulled a few rocks out of the way and now the local dirtbikers can climb the hills again. i have a video on youtube of one of the mudholes thats on the powerlines that got shut down.. i will link it here.. it was a great place to mud, beat on your truck and drink beer, camp etc.

EDIT: here's the video, the actual hole is at the end of the video.

It's because retards don't take care of it, and hippies are too worried about conserving every damn leaf.

I would rant a little more, but I'll just keep my mouth shut.

im interested in hearing what your opinion of the closings is..

here's my opinion of this.. i think its bull**** because now we have no where to wheel at least if you have keep all the drunks in one spot.. i dont know about your state but out here in the country where i live we like to drink and mud.. i know a bunch of people that have built rigs (one is am early 90's f150 crew cab sitting on 39's) and now they have no where to hit the mud wiht it.. unless you wanna trailer it. there's also a HUGE pond/lake thing about an hour from me its got a hard bottom to it but it swallows 35's like nothing, i know a few trails around here that will swallow and impassible for even 44's.

Well, there is part of the problem there. You drink and "mud", which essentially still driving under the influence. Some person that happens to be hiking or whatever near where you are drinking and driving is going to see that, and probably say something to the proper authorities, such as the forest service, or whatever system manages that area.

Then, people will be sent out to check on the area for litter, damage done to the ecosystem, and possibly people out wheeling and they will probably find all of that.

Sorry, but drinking and wheeling is just as dumb as drinking and driving. If somebody is under the influence and does a bad move on a hill side and rolls down, you're getting the trail closed off for other RESPONSIBLE wheelers.

If you want to drink while you're out, give the keys up, AND PICK UP YOUR ****ING TRASH! Every time I hit a trail, I pick up other peoples garbage because I don't want the trail closed down. Last time I went out, I had about 2 bags full of **** that people just throw out of their windows.

I don't care if you think you're being responsible about your drinking, but you just pointing that out makes me pissed off. DON'T ****ING DRINK AND DRIVE! Idiot.

I didn't read that part. Sorry.

You are right, people wheeling in illegal areas ARE a problem. If there is a gate, don't go around it. If there is a sign, maybe READ it and understand it.

I don't give a **** if you're wheeling on a Huffy. If it's private property, if there is a gate, STAY OUT!

If your friends are going out on illegal stuff, and you know it, say something!

when i said we "drink and mud" doesnt mean we get ****ing hammered.. i usually have maybe 2 beers when up in the trees. i put the ****ing empty cans in my truck, not out the ****ing window. i know people that do and i dont like it.. to me if your going to "drink and mud" and get hammered you better be camping or something not driving home. and i always pick up garbage and crap from other people too.. i didnt start wheeling yesterday ya know... i've been riding quads, bikes, and **** up in the hills for 10+ years and NEVER EVER leave my garbage out on the trail. hell i got friends that throw their ****ing cans on the trail and i walk over pick it up and toss it in the bed of the truck until i get home.. so not sure why you got pissed off me for a general trail closing thread when i said i have a couple beers on the trail. ya dont you?? like **** come on..

i dont like the closings of the trails either and i know its illegal to wheel, i dont live in no friggin state so there are VERY little offroad parks here to "wheel" at so we "wheel" on the mountains.. i wasnt friggin born yesterday. duh

i agree with there. its not about the alcohol. yah there's a gate here too and thats why i STAY OUT!!! **** im not the ones that moved the friggin rocks in the first place, i didnt like the idea and stayed out of it. nothing here other than part of the gravel pit (which is the base of a mountain and there's a ball park and community horseback riding ring) thats "private property."

the mountain is owned by CSRD (Columbia Shuswap Regional District) and crown land. thats where i wheel mostly. the water run off is tearing up the logging roads and trails more than the dirtbikes/ quads and trucks are. if you wanna know more about CSRD type in CSRD in google.

Alright... Jim and Matt set the stage for me. I was going to stay out of it because everyone says I ***** and moan about my ranting about trail etiquette...

Here's the thing. To the OP. First off, there's a reason the cops ran everyone off that land... IT'S ILLEGAL F'CKING WHEELING BUDDY. Second, IF you go off, break fences, disregard signs, move rocks set to close trails, whatever it may be... ILLEGAL WHEELING.

I can't tell you folks how many f'cking trails get closed each year in the State of Colorado due to complete and utter disregard for the land. I'm not a f'cking treehugger, if I was I'd be singing Kum Ba Ya wearing a tie die t-shirt driving an old Subaru or Prius. No, I just have a love and passion for 4 wheeling and I will continue to have that passion god dammit if it means fighting dipshi'ts like all of you arguing the fact that illegal wheeling is cool, and there's nothing wrong with it.

All it takes is ONE god damn greenie to see this thread and LEGAL wheeling gets shut down. C'mon folks, get involved in a lot of the stay the trail campaigns, the Tread Lightly campaign, and do yourselves a favor and RESEARCH TRAIL CLEANUP. I do it regularly, makes wheeling that much more enjoyable.

End rant, OP you're a dumbass if you think it's unfair they shut down your illegal wheeling antics.... props to your local authority's and I hope they hit you with a substantial fine if you continue it.

Here in Michigan, another park is actually have a grand opening Labor Day weekend. But some of the national forest rangers/ DNR rangers are starting to hand out tickets and being dumb about it.

There is case going on about some wheelers who got tickets for "not driving on legal roads" or something like that. The wheelers asked where they should ride and the officer told them "drive on what looks like a road." This is what they were on:

im not ****ing stupid i KNOW why the cops went up there and busted everyone.. i wasnt up there when they did. hell i havent been up there in months. yes i know its illegal wheeling im not saying its not. when i go wheeling i dont tear **** up, because im glad for the wheeling spots we DO have and i dont want too many more to get shut down.. not sure why you guys think its my fault that the COPS went up there and busted everyone.. like WTF??? and whats this about disregarding signs?? like wtf??? the sign is like 20 feet off the paved road so it means that you can still wheel there just dont do nothing stupid. most of the **** i do is dry logging road. the mountain i wheel on there's no signs other than a yellow gate blocking off part of the gravel pit(base of the Mt) i dont go in there, they have a sign on the gate that says no entry.

im definitely not bragging or anything but the cops dont come down my way too often so there's lots of people riding quads, dirtbikes rhino's down the road for kms to get to this gravel pit and there's a few modded trucks with no insurance that run down the road too.. i dont do this, if i have no insurance on my truck it doesnt leave the yard. and YES i love wheeling too whether it be trucks, quads, bikes etc and i'd hate to see every trail closed down, but im NOT the one that doing the damage, i tread lightly when i wheel as i've stated before and i think everyone thats pissed off because they are closing the trails down needs to calm themselves down.

not sure why this thread turned into an arguement.. its supposed be a place about trail closings and people's opinion on them not a bunch ****ing arguing. and im sure im not the only one that has A beer on the trail NOT getting hammered because thats just stupid. like i said before if your get hammered on the trail spend park take a nap or whatever or spend the night. thats what i do. can we get back on topic now?? geez ya'll sound like a bunch of babies arguing over a general topic.

One thing i hate the most out in the woods is finding someone's empty beer can or trash. the last time I was in the Moses Lake orv park i took 2 bed loads of trash and **** to the dumpster. And I wasn't even on a clean up mission i would just drive around the sand a open my door and throw it in the back hardly ever had to get out of the truck. We have a mud bog up in Moyie Springs every year spring and fall, thats where all of the local mud boggers go. and that is a get hammered and drive though a mud pit deal. alot of stuff around me is posted with forest service signs Jimmeh probably knows what i'm talking about. its just damn frustrating that i go out in the woods to enjoy some camping and i just find trash everywere. be it parties or what ever hell i've even been out snowmobiling on the top of a ******* mountain and found some dumb ****'s empty beer can on top of the snow!!!!!! pack it back out its even lighter now that you drank it!!! thank you!! end rant lol

ya thats what kelly main used to be like every may long weekend all the local mudbogger's and campers go and get hammered and drive through the mud, break their truck attempt to fix it, if successful then drive through the mud some more, if not say **** on it and drink an arseload my beer. go to sleep, in the morning get up fix truck and repeat the process. haha, like i said before at least if they kept one mudhole open and sacrificed it then you'd be keeping the mudders and drunks in one spot, not all over the friggin mountain.

EDIT: and the HUGE hole that is an hour from me is like that get hammered drive through the mud. but EVERYBODY goes to this hole there is WAY too many drunks there to have any fun now.. it wasnt bad 2-3 yrs ago but the drunk people stand at the edge of the water and the people in the trucks cant see where the hell they are going, thus someone is gonna get ran over.

OK, I don't know how it is in hick central Florida for their mud bogs or what have you, I've never been nor do I care to be. But, out west here, on the trail, if you're caught with an open alcohol container on the trail, you WILL get charged with a DUI. First and foremost, you're on a public road. Second, U.S. Forest Service is pretty strict about it. I wheel with a group that has NO tollerance for drinking and driving on the trail. Save it for after the trail at the bar or around the campfire. I've personally threatened folks on the trail with both the U.S.F.S AND the county sheriff being at the end of the trail waiting for them to pick them up on a couple of DUI charges. That gets their attention and they quit drinking. Here's the thing, I enjoy a nice beer, who doesn't... just not on the trail.
