I paid around $130 or so for my Red Top. I want to know that my truck will start when I'm out hunting or wheeling nowhere near where other people are. In the summer the high is around 110 or so. If my truck doesn't start and nobody is around a long hike in that heat is dangerous. You can only carry so much water with you. This is just how I think though. Even if I only have to walk 8 miles to get help, I would be much happier to spend the extra $$$ in the first place rather than cussing at myself walking thinking that I should have spent it in the first place.

Some info on the red top.... http://www.optimabatteries.com/publi...e/starter.html

Optima recommends a Red Top 25 or a Red Top 75/35 for a 01-04 Ranger

I just bought an Optima Red Top 34. It's 800cca/1000mca, a lil more powerful than the two recommended which are both 720cca.

I got an Optima Red Top 34/78. It's like 1/2" too big for the stock plate. Just take a hammer and "bend" the tabs out a little bit and it drops right in. Only had to hit it 3-4 times and it fit perfect.

And for reference I really do think the Optima's are worth it. My truck just cranks over every time now no matter what. Had it sit all night in -10 here and fired on the first crank the next morning. I mean... that says something. My ol' Interstate would get the job done, but it definitely had to work a lot more to get the job done.

My original motorcraft battery that came with my Ranger lasted 6 years. I am into year 4 on my second one and have never had a problem. I bought mine at the dealer.

Grizzlybear34, I'm just curious, how much did the dealer charge you for the battery?

Thought I would mention the Duralast Yellow Top (gold Series), 750CCA 1000WCA...has 3 year warranty. I have my stereo, hellas, fogs and such and it takes it well.
