well like anything else, the final gearing makes all the difference. we had a '77 reg cab longbed 4x4 with the C6 auto, full-time 4wd and 4.10 gears, would pull anything you hooked up to it as long as it could get traction, excellent snowplower, downside was the milage, it had the 2 barrel carb. not sure what top speed it had, wasnt ment to be driven fast, i may have hit 60 with it but thats about it.

Well Ive been driving my truck around and it is so much fun. Of course Ive had to do some minor tune up stuff and pressure washed the whole underside. I havent done the leveling kit yet, but one of my buddies gave me his old stock 03 F250 diesel front leaf springs, so Im going to measure those to see if they match my fronts and see if that will work to bring my front end up 2" or so. My only real concern right now is this dam loser we have in office right now. Oil prices just hit $110 a barrell. Thats gonna mean $5/gal real soon, so I may not be driving my truck as much as I thought. Ive done some homework on getting better fuel economy, dont worry im not going to start the whole hydrogen generator thing, but Ive talked to a few people who claim to get 25% better fuel economy by tweeking their carbs and fuel delivery system. So I'll try that soon enough and report back to you guys.
But overall I think I made a great trade but I still see myself looking at other lifted ranger driving down the road and I wonder if any of them are on here. I did get a pic from the guy who bought my waggy D44. He has it all built up with 4.88 and lockers and trimmed and painted with all new brakes and bearings. I think he said hes on TRS. So thanks for all the memories, thats why I keep coming back to this site....... Rangers are fun!!!!!

Glad to hear you're enjoying the truck. Neither one of my 77's get driven very often. I've read a lot of the better MPG builds, I assume you already have a 4BBL, if not get one, that's the best way to start getting better mileage, don't forget the aluminum intake

If you ever look to sell it, I'll be first in line to buy it. I need a new project

Hey dude, I was just thinking about emailing you!
How is the job going? I got an email from RLC out of the blue last week requesting more info and copies of my licenses!
I haven't sent the stuff back in because I've been out of state and I'm waiting on a couple of letters of recommendation.

BTW, my wife is now living in Eugene Oregon at her new job so I'm desperate to get out of here! lol

What other forums have to been looking at? Ive been on FTE and have found some stuff, but mostly people have just accepted the crappy mileage. What kind of 4bbl do you have and what are you getting for MPG. I cant imaging thats its much better than the usual 8-10mpg. And no, I dont plan on selling this thing anytime soon, this is my new baby mobile and it comes with a factory D44 up front.

Thats good news Brian. Ive heard RLC has been bringing in new people do to everybody moving on. Hopefully you get that stuff in sooner than later and make it into the next training classes. Igot moved into a 407 out of galveston, so im moving up here at the end of the month. I bet your wife is happy to be back in the great NW. I wish I could move back home too, but the life of the pilot is to pay your dues, just like we are doing.

Since Im not the only one who likes these old trucks, I'll post some more pics when I get a chance and when I do some additions to my new fav truck. I still havent found a good nickname for my crewcab but im sure something will come naturally soon enough.

I've been on FTE for a few years, most of what I read is having a 4BBL with an aluminum intake. After that you adjust the rears to open only at full throttle. Plus you can switch the jets for more economical ones

There's a bunch of stuff people came up with. I think I even read somewhere about electronic overdrive (don't know how that works)

Both my 77's are bone stock at this time. But I will be getting a 4BBL and an aluminum intake when I do the resto.

thanks for the heads up. Ive been thinking about getting some high altitude jets and adjusting my airflow ratio. Im sure somebody has tried that before but I havent been able to find anything. I really want to drive my truck alot more so anything would help at this point. I know my ranger only got like 15mpg so if I could come anywhere close to that I would be extatic.
But Hey..... If i wanted great mpg's I would have bought some little econo car. Since I drive an old F250 it is what it is! Built Ford tough and Proud of it!!!!

and no I wasnt an ebay find, I just got lucky on craigslist

I had my truck up for sale on ebay not too long ago, but couldnt go through with it. I thought about getting a ranger again, but I just love this old thing too much. I just wish I could get better than 8-9mpg. Ive been doing research about fuel vaporizers and a few other mods, and have seen other old fords with a 400 claim to get 14mpg. I would love that! Thats what I was getting with the ranger. Anyway I still lurk on this site from time to time and wanted to share, and had a few new pics from my ebay listing, so enjoy if you like these old trucks.

Oh yea, I also wanted to share my reason for the new truck....... My new pride and joy!

I really like that truck. There are things you can do to improve fuel economy but they are not cost beneficial. If I had that truck I would totally swap in a Detroit silver 453T, then you would get 14+ mpg.

Still a nice truck. I liked the older rims over these. Those factory ford ones.

Thanks guys. I really dont think I will ever have the nerve to sell this thing, its just too much of a rare classic and I want my daughter to remember dads cool old truck. And I wish I could do a Cummins swap to get some good mpg's, but with Kalifornias smog regs, I dont think I could legally do that and I dont have a place or the $$$ to do that anytime soon.

Trucks looking good man. I'd hold on to it as long as you can.

Buddy of mine is trying to sell a really clean 79 Crewcab with the 429 Cobra Jet. Clean as hell. 80ishK thousand miles, new paint, chrome, flawless interior. He has had it for sale for months on c-list for 8900, and it hasn't sold.

tell your buddy to post it on ebay they seem to sell pretty good on there and another site is oldfordcrewcabs.com, people on there are looking for crews all the time and it sounds like its a reasonable price too.
