im sure xcab f150s can use the excuse ... furthermore if you dont have the passengers no need for the crew

my dad has a 98 silverado xcab 5.7 and if i could afford the gas / towed bigger trailers id get one, they are very nice trucks imo. Family has had 2 other full size fords too.

Im also not a fan of the newer ones as much though

The Fords are a hell of a lot tighter, F150's and super duties.
funny .... i work for a city parks and rec department. Older stuff is all chev, newer stuff ford .... my favorite is one of the newest trucks on the fleet is a 2009 f450 crew with a 6.4 powerjoke, and its been in the shop 2-3 times .. just a hair over 1k miles on it!

On the other end of the spectrum, there is a 96 chev 350 dually with a 454 and utility boxes on it that i would drive any day of the week reliable as hell and comfortable for that kind of big truck

About trucks being used for work......here in the oil field you rarely see any company trucks that aren't f150s or superdutys.

He likes it, but wishes he would have kept his 83 F250 460... a couple trucks prior to the 06. I'm just not a big fan of the new F150's from a looks standpoint, and the damn lag in the throttle. If someone walked up and gave me the keys to one to own, I'd drive it, but it just isn't an older Ford truck ya know?
The throttle lag goes right away with a tuner, it is like night and day. It is just how Ford programmed it to keep people from *****ing about sensitive throttle.

I have driven the toyotas and nissans, didn't like either one much to be honest.

Yep. I don't know about a "parks and rec" truck, but the coal trucks are off road all day everyday. Shows a lot about what a "truck" is supposed to be able to hold up to in my opinion. There are a couple of them that like the chevy trucks because they say they ride smoother. When you watch them drive down the mud/dirt/rock roads the shake and shimmy all over the place though. Whatever, personal preference.
Anyway I'm done posting in this thread that is WAAAY off track now, lol.
Some people have gotten their panties all wadded up in here.

I agree on the second truck though, cleanest of the group.

not really, some of us actually use the truck. mine every tank has at least had the trailer hooked up for 45+ miles.

i haul stuff in the bed all the time.

also what 'special luxury options' does mine have that yours or any other older truck doesnt.

power windows?
power locks?
power mirrors?
auto trans?
a/c?

oh yeah i guess i have an electric switch for 4wd... big deal.

oh yeah and my mirrors have a defrost, so i dont have to scrape the ice off. wow...

all in all its still a truck that can tow 10k lbs and rides great.

Trucks you wish you still had:
I had 76 Ford F-100 4x4 SWB 390, 4 speed, Dana 44's, 4" lift, running 33x12.50's. Rollbar lights, no options, benchseat and a heater. I was soooooooo stupid for selling it.

kind of hard to compare a 83 f250 to a 06 f150 isnt it? btw im not trying to cause an argument i just feel they are not that bad of a truck for what people give them.

i am really impressed with mine and i enjoy driving it. love it.

throttle lag FTL, i hate it but over all it works just fine for what i use it for.

I honestly wanted one of those really bad. I looked all over locally, I just couldn't find one. And while I was willing to travel west of me for a rig, I just wanted to find something local, because I knew I could get something better then my damn Dodge here, lol.

I agree with you. I wish my truck had power options, but meh, I don't really need them, and I guess it's better I don't have them. Less things to fix on my POS

Mine's got power windows, locks and mirrors. Those I can understand in a truck... it's the leather seats some of em come with, smooth ride, so forth I don't agree with. However, Mine's manual where I need it to be, transmission, T/C, and hubs.

i will concede there, ive been a critic of what the parks guys drive since i started working here, with the exception of a few trucks most of the work that gets done could be done with compacts, yet the only people who drive compacts are the supervisors ....

I don't know about you, but my dog rides along with me on the weekends, and I hate trying to get her hair off the cloth seats. That's why I wouldn't mind having leather. But, leather is also colder in the winter, and since Montana has 13 months of winter these days (it was 34 and snowed today!), then I guess I will just have to live with grabbing that lint roller!
