well when i bought my 99 ranger it had a bent key and a rusted lock. So instead of wasting money on a nother lock to protect my threadless spair and rusted rim that no one wants, i just removed my tailgate and took a hammer and flat head screwdriver to it and wriped it out. Figured there was no point to having it cause i have never heard of someone stealing a spare tire. Its a good thing i did that cause the next week at work i came out to my truck with a flat tire. If i would have had the rusted lock still in i would have been able to get my spair down.
well there is my 2 cents.
cya

Went and had the parts guy order a new key / lock kit today, it cost 12.75 + tax, so 13 something. I should have it tomorrow, now I just need to get the old lock cylinder out.

'Comon up to Nashua. I know a section of town where the kids can probably help you figure that out in a hurry!

Same problem

1999 XLT dont have that key to get that cylinder out. I want to drill the whole thing out, how long are those things? I dont want to drill to far. Just bought this truck 4 months ago, and i found out the spare tire is a firestone wilderness, so i need to get that lock off, and a new tire on there.

just drill it out. the dealer even told me to drill mine out haha. The piece you need is really far behind that "lock" so just drill it without worrying

There isn't much to those locks. The one on my dad's 00 XLT seized up, so I drilled it out. About 3 seconds with the drill and it just fell apart.

If its possibly keyed the same as the doors and just cant be reached why dont you try taking the bed gate off and sticking the key in?

The spare tire lock is not keyed to match the doors.
