Spare Tire Protector

has anyone ever used anything like this?

Tire Protector

With the winters and road salt etc I'm looking to keep a new spare slightly protected. Do you think a standard tire cover would hold up\on underneath the truck?

I haven't used one, I keep my spare in the back.
The problem with mounting the spare under the bed like that is that it collects debris and salt inside the tire, no matter how far it's mounted up inside the bed.

So if anything that tire protector will make that situation worse by not allowing the dirt from escaping through the holes in the wheel.

Yeah I thought about putting it in the bed but then it's in view, and I'd have to lock it, and remove it every time I wanted to haul something that didn't allow for it being there. That's a good point though about it catching the salt. Maybe I should just move south..problem solved. I'd still like to hear if anyone has put a regular tire cover over their spare underneath the truck and if it works or doesn't.

If you could find a cover that covers the whole tire...

If you had some way of keeping the water from getting in from the topside (between the bed and top of tire) it would probably work very well.

Any water and salt that got in has no way to get out.

Yea that thing would be packed with grit and salt and destroy your tire even faster than leaving it exposed. Just keep it clean by spraying it down with every wash and drop it once a year to check it and give it a healthy coat of 303.
