4 months later, new belt sueeks....

i replaced my serpentine belt back in october due to squeeking a very lot when it was wet.

4 months later in february, it is squeeking again, but only when moisture is around.

i had bought a dayco belt for like $33

why is this happening or what else could be causing it before i go buy anoither belt?

My 98 did it all the time with an old belt I changed to a gatorback belt by goodyear and got rid of it, it does it very rarely now only if its extremely damp and its been sitting for awhile. But it goes away after like 10 mins not do it for a couple days like the old belt did.

you might also have a bad/lose belt tensioner......that will cause the belt to losen up and squeek when the truck is running...

ya check that last weekend i was like ok i g2 find the squeeking and i checked belt and it was fine and then i saw my tensioner was almost all the way off like it was just bearly resting on the bolt and it was going crazy so i took it off and replaced it and its all better. but the sound was happening for like a year and it just kept getting worse.

better check it and if u get a big long flat head screwdriver put the tip on the tensioner and put ut ear up to the but of the driver or a piece of emt or pipe. u cna here the noise threw the driver.

I'm having the same problem, but I've changed the tensioner and I have a gatorback.

I've looked over the pulleys for anything unusual, but it still squeaks. It SCREAMS when I turn the A/C on. I think something may be going bad and causing too much resistence for the belt to turn.

Your idler pulley more than likely needs to be changed as well do to surface wear and wear to the bearing. I just changed the belt when it started squeaking about 1000 miles later it started again. Took it to the dealer and my 2000 3.0 needed the idler, tensioner and belt replaced @ around 25k miles which was working fine when I sold it @ 45k miles.

ok, the belt was squeeking the crazy this morning as it was wet outside, and as soon as i sprayed some PAM cooking spray on the idler pulley, the sueeeking stopped, does this mean my idelr pulley is loose or worn or something?

also, the idler pulley should be tight as heck, correct?

i noticed that is does wiggle back and fourth a very small amount, i mean very small.
