speedometer cable gear

maybe somebody can can tell me the color code or part# of the gear to drive my speedometer?
im swapping in a 3L45 and going to a 16 inch wheel,tires are 235/70r/16. transmission is m5odr1
i haven't run across a ranger that gear and tire size.

Worm(drive) gear on output shaft should be 7 teeth
Axle ratio is 3.45
235/70R16 Tire diameter is 29" and rotates 697 times per mile

Driven gear should have 16.81 teeth, so 17 teeth would be closest

Bronco Graveyard has them at $7: https://shop.broncograveyard.com/Spe.../products/853/

ok,thanks.
just out of curiosity what year and trim did the that tire and gear come in a ranger and is that worm drive gear used in any other transmission than the m5r1?

All the automatics were 7 tooth machined on output shaft on 2WD models, until 2001 when they got tone ring instead
Manuals were 7 tooth as well and transfer cases, until 2001 when they also went to the tone wheel

Speedometer worm drives and driven gears were only used thru 1997, so I just assumed you have a 1997 or earlier Ranger, speedometer cables were only used 1994 and earlier
1998 to 2000 used rear ABS sensor and GEM module for speed, no gears to adjust, same for 2001 and up, it was a programmable speed correction for change in tire size or rear ratios

Good to know,I've got a 94 but plan to change the dash in the future. Was going to go with an 03 up instrument cluster with the tachometer, guess Ill cross that bridge when i get to it. Thanks

The VSS(vehicle speed sensor) thats on the 1994 was used in that year for the cruise control and the computer, but can also be used for the electric speedometer as is just one wire to the new instrument cluster
Tach might be an issue since was switched to computer control in 1995 but should just be a one wire change as well
But there will be lots of wires to re-pin between those two instrument clusters, not plug and play, lol.

2003 and down you mean, in 2004 Rangers got the HEC dash which has a microprocessor built-in, it has to be "married to" a 2004 and up Ford computer or it won't work, part of the odometer security system since Ford had a bad track record with "rollbacks", people swapping dashes to put in lower odometers to sell vehicle for more money

I was eyeballing the white cluster that was all gauges with a tach, was thinking that come out in 03. I really haven't looked into it yet, must get the new meats before i start sliding around. Ichose the 70r 16's because they are the most common size and give me a better selection than the 14's.
