mustang gt hood scoop on a ranger edge

buddy of mine has a 2004 ford ranger edge. He is looking to see if it is possible to install a stang gt hood scoop for his truck.

He wants the real deal too, not those tape on hood scoops. Any info someone has, i would really appreciate it. Thanks -Mike-

I have one of those tape on scoops but they screw on as well. The problem I found with them is the tape the give you is way to thick. I ended up taking it back off & putting the much thinner 3M 2 way tape on & screwing it down with 6 screws. It now fits flush with the hood. Just in case he can't find "The real deal".

when you say real deal, do you mean hole in the hood? because that will do nothing unless you decide to move your radiator up there or get an intercooler...

but other then that they look really good and id go with what rick said because itll help protect the hood and it will keep it sealed.

when i say real deal i mean the actual hood & scoop, the whole 9 yards off a mustang gt. What mods will he have to do to the hood to get it too fit? -Mike-

why would he even try? take a scoop off a GT, graft it onto your hood and save yourself a ****load of trouble/money. it will still be a "real" scoop, not taped on, but it will be on a hood that was actually meant to go on a ranger.

Different year of Ranger

Here's mine..............2001 Mustang GT scoop that I made functionable: Gratin holes were drilled out & YES, hole in the hood to feed air to my carb!

BTW: They aren't CHEAP for a factory Mustang GT scoop, they list for like $200 w/tax.........................but they do bolt on with 6 studs that are included.

GOOD LUCK!

I bought the HS005 http://12.45.24.51/xtreme/Products.j...eyword=mustang
I ended up putting studs in instead of using the screws, bought the thinnest 3M tape I could find & had them paint it. Very nice job of color matching might I add.

do you know the mustang scoop is just bolted onto the mustang? take it off and bolt it onto your edge.

the stock honeycomb grill is big enough to shape it to your hood. takes a little while to do. here is a write up i did on it a long time ago...

Ok here is my truck this is a 1999-2004 mustang hood scoop. they fit the contour of the hood fine EVEN the newer powerdome ranger hoods. you DRILL AND BOLT the scoop onto the hood. DO NOT just use 3M tape BECAUSE there isnt enought material on the underside to stick it too. and YES it will fly off on the freeway if its just taped had a buddy that had one on his 91 ranger and it fly's off about 3 times now lol...

ok you take your time and put 4" masking tape all over the hood so you can write all over it and measure on the hood. find all your holes. check and drill. use touch up paint to touch up the holes. now put the Grille back on the scoop you put it back on the hood, lay the scoop in the holes the best you can. put masking tap on the grille itself then using a protractor scrabe the hood profile onto the grille. use a cutting device and start triming, this will take MANY times to get perfect. then using a sharp utility blade clean up all the edges on the plastic grille. and bolt on. there is a few other minor steps i left out if people want to do this contact me about it. here is the before and after. didnt take pics for the during i was to busy and forgot

ya the price was killer thats why i always tell people to check the junk yards when looking for one. thanks for the compliment i think i left out some but if people ever wanted a full write up i could do it in no time.

yours you sayed and looks like the mustang scoop correct? did yours not come with the stock honeycomb grill cause you can use that and shape it to the hood...

Hey Zach,

I didn't say I paid that...................but I did buy it NEW, as the only one to be found around here (salvage yard) was $175, and I wasn't givin that for that lil' piece of plastic.

Yea, its a GT look a like & no, it didn't come with a honeycomb grill, just a blank piece of plastic which didn't fit because of the center dip in the hood. I really want to find a fairly large sheet of the honeycomb grill because I want to finish up the center of the Grille as well since Ford thought they should leave it wide open. The 2 sides have the honeycomb but not the center. Between taking our cargo light away & not finishing the grill must have saved them millions huh...
