Squeaking from the back Ranger 2010

Hello I just bought a brand new 2010 Ford Ranger 4x4 Sport and i have this weird squeaking coming from the back when i go over bumps.
The salesman told me to drive a couple of day to see if the squeaking dissapears but what could it be ? Me and my friend got in the truck bed and started to jump on it to see if it was coming from the suspension but it didn't make a sound.

also im looking for a locking gas cap...looking for links or parts number
Thanks

OFF TOPIC

Hey do me a favor!!! Go to a gravel road, turn your traction control OFF, put your truck in drive then floor it for about a second or 2 then look behind you and tell me if you see ( 2 ) peel out marks in the gravel or just ( 1 ). THANKS

Why ??? LOL

FULLSCALE May 13, 2010 07:26 PM

I think he just wants to know if you have a l/s rear end. It probably would have just been much simpler to ask...?

k.low May 13, 2010 07:28 PM

I have a 3.73 rear end

FULLSCALE May 13, 2010 07:31 PM

Do you know if it's an open diff or limited slip? (I'm still not sure why the above reply wants to know this...lol)

k.low May 13, 2010 07:34 PM

Limited slip but the squeaking happens only when i go over moderate bumps so I don't think its coming for a bearing...the truck has less than 50 miles on it.

FULLSCALE May 13, 2010 07:37 PM

Could be just a leaf spring or something... Give it a bit of time like they said and see what happens.

stephen.g.fiddes May 13, 2010 07:37 PM

I know some rangers came with a sway bar in the rear end (not sure what years). check that maybe?

oh, and ALL rangers for all years and trims, come stock with funny noises that intermittently go in and out.

EDIT: I meant check the ends where the sway-bar connects. sometimes those can make noise.

k.low May 13, 2010 07:38 PM

Yea i'll give it a bit of time and see what happens thanks

anyways im pissed because a new truck isn't suppose to make any funny noises !!!

Got that right. Both my Rangers have had the occasional noise that happens every so often but I have no idea what they are/were!

stephen.g.fiddes May 13, 2010 07:41 PM

haha, my old one had this strange grinding noise in the rear end that I could never figure out. It went away about a week before I rolled it.

I agree, a new truck shouldn't. But I figure if you're reasonable with them and give it some time then they'll likely be reasonable with you if it doesn't go away and you take it back in, or if anything else in the future comes up.

k.low May 13, 2010 07:46 PM

Is there any parts that maybe a could lube to help it stop making that noise or should i just leave like that and bring it back to the dealership in a couple of days ?

Thanks

FULLSCALE May 13, 2010 07:49 PM

I'd leave it and see what happens.

Could you just please HUMOR me and find a couple minutes to prove whether you spin one tire or both??

According to ford this is ( NO ) limited slip on 2010 PERIOD!!!

So if you turn traction control OFF and take of fast on some gravel you should only have ( 1 ) tire that spins and this would CONFIRM threw real life application that your truck does indeed have an OPEN DIFF. THANKS!!!!!

k.low May 13, 2010 08:01 PM

Okay i will do it tomorrow.

So its normal for Open diff to make that squealing noise ???

Dude, if you're so determined to find this out, go test drive a 2010 and do it yourself. LOL

x2

Also, if they do offer L/S, It would be an option, so even if he didn't have it, it could be because that's not how he ordered it.

I say if it keeps doing it and really bothers you take it back, techs love funny noises, vehicles come standard with a knob in the dash that control noises... but anyway its prolly suspension

The reason I didn't ask is because it is my understanding that some ford salesman are telling new ford owners they have limited slip rear ends when according to ford they NO longer offer the limited slip, so that would mean it is an open diff and these new ranger owners are just believing the bull **** the sales man is saying.

I am just looking for some FACTS and real world tests. It's all good:biggrin:

I would do it if somebody asked me and if I only spun one tire while traction control is OFF i would be PISSED because I was lied to.

No where on the BUILD YOUR FORD RANGER WEB SITE does it mention OR offer as an option a limited slip!!!

NO,,,, my question was OFF TOPIC and not related to your squeaking!!

k.low May 13, 2010 08:14 PM

Okay

filmont May 13, 2010 08:30 PM

If you don't have it yet you will have the power windows that hop and skip most of the way down. It's been standard since at least 2001. As for the squeaking, I would agree with everyone else, just wait and see.

GrafixGuy May 13, 2010 08:35 PM

my truck use to do it when it was new. pretty quiet now. sounded like something to to with the bed. After you get some wear on it it should be fine.
