Squeaky Breaks?
 

Hey guys,

So, I have a couple things on my mind about my truck, and one of them is the breaks.
They squeak most of the time, but then they don't. I took it in to get the breaks changed and the guy just looked at me and was like " your breaks are fine" I just got the truck at the end of last summer, and it started after my fiance and I went off roading with it. I can find what it is, and i'm not sure if someone has experienced that. The Customer service girl at the dealership said alot of ranger owners complain about squeaky breaks when they are fine.

Any Ideas?

idk sounds like cheap pads if they arent worn.

mine does it also. started after i changed the pads. i used good pads but i'm going take them back off and replace again with a better pad. any one have any recommendationor any ideas to help us out?

its just the material the stock pads are made of, yes it does seem to be a common issue with rangers. After I went to ceramic pads, problem solved, alot less brake dust too.

i got brand new pads on mine and they squeal when they are hot i i got car quest ceramics i need to take them back and exchange them

You could coast to a stop, downshift (engine brake), etc. I've had good luck with ceramics, they might squeal a little at first, but stop after they're broken in. And yea, a LOT less dust, which in itself is worth it I think.

I only have 19,000 mi on my truck and the brakes squeak upon medium application when they're cold. I've taken the pads off & buffed them on my belt sander and they're good for about 2-3 weeks before the squeak slowly starts to come back. Even had my rotors turned once and it didn't last any longer before they started making noise again.

I've considered EBC "green" pads #7086 which are supposed to be quiet and virtually dust free but I haven't been annoyed enough yet to want to spend the $100+ to try them since my pad lining thickness looks great.

PS: If anyone else has tried the EBC brakes would you please pipe up and let us know if you thought they were worth the $$$. Thanks.

Auto, but I still could, wouldn't that do damage to my tranny though?

OK I guess I'll throw my 2 cents in on this one, but first my story with brakes. I have an 03 xl with no thrills, 42000 miles on it. Last summer I did a brake job on it and noticed the pads where still good and did not change them out. I let my ladies daughter use the truck for a few weeks because it was cheaper for her to drive it to work vs her suv. Well after getting it back I noticed this grinding noise and it stumped me. Well low and behold the pads that I failed to replace had disintegrated and the rivet was now gouging the hell out of my new rotor! So to the store I go for new pads (have spare rotors in shop). Ceramics are what I come home with and proceed to change them out, WTF they dont fit with the metal clips on the caliper. So off they come and get put in the tool box just incase the coating on the new pads wears a lil bit and can get them to go back on. Moral of the story DONT LET SOMEONE USE YOUR TRUCK THAT DRIVES LIKE A MANIAC AND JACKS THE BRAKES TO STOP!!! Also change everything no matter how good they look STEALER (dealer) parts suck and, ceramics are better then semi!

When you guys redo your brakes do you use disk brake grease?If your pads are good you just may have a vibration,and many times this will stop it.

there are many options other than just ceramic or stock, there is stock, composite (which are what the stock are, but generally a company, like raybestos, will put a little more R&D into their pads...) semi metallic, metallic, ceramic, and i believe semi ceramic... which will work best for you depends on your type of driving, the top of the line ones aren't the best for everyone... and not just because of the cost

no, not if you have a manual, you will wear your clutch more, but not severly... automatic transmission, it depends on who you ask... some people say it will damage it, others say it won't... my opinion is if you want to shift your transmission, buy a manual

Pretty much, well, All I can do is take them off and see what they look like, unfortunately I was over in la la land on duty, so it was my fiancé who took the truck in, apparently they were still "beefy" didn't get any measurements, so I'll just have to look my self.

Also, anyone ever paint their break calipers? I was thinking of doing them red.
