The cowl has vents on either end of it that drain the water. As long as your snorkel end going into the cowl box is setup correctly, there's nothing to worry about. I've taken my truck into crap 95% of the members on this board wouldn't even consider and that snorkel never let a drop of water into my intake box.

During one of the past rainstorms I went out to a campsite by okechobee and we were running down a couple trails with this other jeep (just me and him) and he offered any help to pull me out if I needed it, so I just took it to the max. I burried her several times, and I broke water over the hood, it was awesome, but my filter got wet...I dunno, I want to do something like this, but I don't want to drill into my cowl. I'd almost rather have it a different way, but there isn't many choices!!!

Just to give you an idea John I paid 50 for a factory hitch, 20 for all my OHC mod, 20 for my light bar with 2 KCs, and I think 2 or 3 for my extra foglight switch. Wow I got off topic....but at least it was good info.

Cool, Luke, thanks.
I remember a snorkel topic where Gil went on and on about how snorkels aren't necessary, but then he never wheeled Wharton, lol. And we now have two guys in the local group who have hydro-locked bad enough to have to replace their engines (Mike and Jay).
This is a good idea for sure. My airbox modifications have kept me out of trouble so far, but one of these days I'm going to hit something deeper and all bets are off...

I know what you mean John. I see you building one that extends to the roofline since you are 2wd and have to hit stuff hard. I feel I will be ok with it just in the cowl cuz I can be a lil more gentle about the wave I make since I got 4wd but thats not gonna matter much either in a few months when you got some big axles under there.
