Starter or Flywheel
 

I just have a question?? My brother has giving me his 89 ford ranger. It ran till last winter when it just shut off and it wouldn't start after that. When you crank it over it doesn't make a sound. It has been at a shop and they switched out the starter and it didn't help. The mechanic says that the starter isn't meeting the flywheel. I'm thinking the flywheel is busted but wouldn't the mechanic be smart enough to see that? What else could it be???
