Tire Jack Advice Needed

Hi-
Unfortunately on a trip to North Carolina I had a blowout. I was lucky to find a place where I could pull over and check what happened.

The lowering the spare from its place was not too bad, but using the small "bottle jack provided behind the passenger's seat was real pain!!! It took forever (1/2 hour) to raise the flattened tire off he ground so I could pull it....

Can anyone recommend a small jack (maybe a scissor type) that I could carry in the back which could do the job quicker?

Any help greatly appreciated!!!

I don't know how it took you a 1/2 an hour to raise your truck. Did you have all of the extensions in use? I can change a tire using the factory jack from getting out of the car to back in it in less than 30 mins.

If you got a scissor jack it probably wouldn't be that compact because to me they aren't as strong for their size as bottle jacks.

I have a 2.5 ton hydraulic floor jack behind my seat for such occassions... plus, I can help out stranded motorists a lot easier with that too.

i've always used the bottle jack and it works pretty well for me even with a 4x4 that sits a little higher. maybe it needs to be cleaned up and lubricated? i know sometimes they can be a pain if they aren't maintained properly

In my old Mustang I used to keep a scissor type jack that worked with a 3/4" socket. With a ratchet and socket it took no time at all!

frack using the jack that came with a ranger. get aaa and wait a few minutes for them to arrive with a proper floor jack and make sure your spare is aired up and accessible. use the time waiting for aaa to get the spare out and ready...
this spring i went to check the spare and the carrier was rusted solid and took an hour to break the mother free.....

I had the spare tire tied down in the bed and a jack from an '85 Chevy K20 in my last ranger. Worked like a dream. walmart and the auto stores sell different style jacks to keep in the truck.

1) I can get my tire off the ground in <5 with the bottle jack. Yours needs to be lubed or something.
2) Check out Harbor Freight for a cheap jack that will do the job. I'm sure they have something that will work.
