I need to get new tires....
I need new tires for my Ranger as my old ones are 6 years old and starting to dry rot. They still have some tread, but my mechanic recommends replacing them. I think they are the original tires that came with the truck new, so they are 6 years old with 38,8xx miles on them, so it's time.
I just want to get a stock size tire, nothing oversize, so I'm looking around and one place quoted me $560 for four Kelly tires installed, and another place is quoting me $375 plus tax, installed for Goodyear Integrity tires. The Integrity tires are normally $125 each, but they are having a buy three get one free sale. So it sounds like a good deal to me. I can't trust my old tires anymore, and don't want an accident from a tire blowout, as safety is my number 1 priority.
What say you ??

I went to go look at the Integrity tire just to see what it looked like, and I wasn't impressed. It looks a lot better in the picture, than in real life. The lettering on the tire is black, where in the picture it tends to stand out a little. Plus it had a thin white wall stripe that looked really dated. So I'm going to check out a few more tire stores tomorrow.

Okay, I went and checked out tires and got quotes from 8 different tire stores, and ended up buying my new tires at Wal*Mart as that was the overall best deal on name brand tires. I bought four Goodyear Tracker 2 tires. They were able to install them right away too !! I think they look really good on my Ranger, I'll post pictures later.....here's the one I bought......

Thanks, I think they'll be fine. I could have saved about $40 by buying off brand name tires from some of the other stores, but they didn't look as good. These come with a 50,000 mile warranty, so I should be set for quite a while.
Wal*Mart really surprised me with their big selection of tires. I wasn't expecting to buy tires from Wal*Mart, but it was the best deal I could find, everybody else was about a $100-200 more for a set of brand name tires.

Well it's raining today so I got to check out how my new tires handle on wet roads...very good. Like driving a brand new truck !! They are quieter than my old tires, seem to absorb road bumps better, and look great, so I'm totally happy with them !!
I bought some Turtle Wax polishing compound and polished my wheels, so it looks like new now !!

Yep, I like them just fine. I had my choice of many different styles and brands to choose from. I wanted brand name tires, I liked the looks of these, and years ago, I used to do work for Goodyear, so I'm returning the favor to them, you know, give them some work when times are tough. Goodyear is based here in Ohio, so my purchase benefits the local economy.
Like I said, I went to 8 different tire shops, checked out tires on the internet, and settled on these as my best choice.... no regrets.

I only put about 4,000-5,000 miles per year on my Ranger....so these tires will last me a long time. I think I read somewhere that Ford recommends tire replacement after they are 6 years old.
I've also read that on some forums on the internet, that 6-8 years is the normal life span of a tire, after that, the rubber breaks down, dries out and cracks develop and they become unsafe as they can blow out anytime. They showed a video of a test driver who had a tire blow out under test conditions, and he still had a very hard time controlling his vehicle. He was swerving all over the place, I'd hate to have that happen while I'm driving on the freeway !!

Here's the link to the tire video, but for some reason, sometimes when I click it, I get directed to a story about Rachael Ray...go figure.....other times it works as planned....

I worked for goodyear.
Integrity sucked. They always wear on the shoulders first. ALWAYS.
Trackers are ok.
I had the michellin LTX's on my truck, and while they were a sick tire, I burned thru a new set in 13k. But the shellstone they put in our asphalt down here tears tires new ones.

Thanks for the info. I wasn't impressed with the Integrity's at all. For a cheap tire for a car they're probably alright, but I didn't care for the looks of them, and didn't want them on my truck. I liked the Tracker 2's right away. I think they look good, they handle good, they're quiet, and they were reasonably priced. Figuring on keeping the tires for 5-6 years, now's not the time to be to be cheap.
