Hello beautiful......

She's home.

2003 FX4 Level II 8.8 4.10 L/S

Picked her up this morning from the best truck junkyard in Northeast Ohio. They paint all under-body parts so that saved me a few cans!! Woot. And I got her for $350, which is exactly what she's worth. Only 111k.

She will sit in my garage for a few weeks until probably Labor Day weekend when I get a chance to bold it up. I need to go to Pull-A-Part and grab some Expo leafs for her since my 2WD leafs are too soft to handle the 8.8 and lift blocks.

Even though I won't get to enjoy her until winter, just knowing it is their in the garage makes my week.

God I love my truck.

Maybe sometime later. I'll be lucky to get her in sometime this year lol. I have to work A LOT of hours to save up money for all my Ranger **** so I can't ever take on projects that take more than a day. Or could potentially, if something went wrong, take more than a day. I need a beater to drive so I can leave my truck disassembled for larger amounts of time.

I was just there like a week ago and bought the hooks off that lvl 2. That place is the best Junkyard I've found yet. They got all the newer cars/trucks. He said there getting a new batch of vehicles soon so I'll be there again in the next month. They priced me $390 for that axle haha. Oh before you put that on the truck get all the seals replaced in it. Its alot easier to get it done when its off the truck.

There's the Pinion seal and 2 outer seals. Its just good preventative maintanence so you don't have to worry about it ever leaking gear oil. Seals are cheap, labor wasn't that bad either when I got mine done on my new axle.

I triple checked mine. Everything is compatible. The only crappy thing is I just had new brakes and drums put on my 7.5 inch last year and the 8.8 inch DEFIANTLY needs new brake pads and drums, plus all the drum hardware which is like total $120.

I know what you mean. When I bought my 4.10 axle the shoes were shot and needed a new brake cylinder and springs and seals(only has 80k on it ha) ended up costing $200 more ontop of the $200 I spent on the axle. But I should never have to worry about replacing anything on the axle so that feels good.

I might put off the drums, springs, and seal and just do the pads. I really need to put money into other stuff first.

a good jy in ohio for rear explorer axles was Marshall's Auto in Circleville. They are only 100 bucks plus a core charge, I picked up at least 3 sets when living in Ohio
