HID kit. What one to get?
I'm looking at hid kits and I need some input on what one to get. I'm ordering from DDM tuning. I was looking at 10000k or 8000k HI/LOW 55w slim ballast. Is this a good choice? 55w or 35w? What temp do you guys recommend. I don't really like that light blue look to the 6000k's. Anyone have any pictures or advice?

ty, your av looks like ship... put your truck back up....
J, i am looking at the exact same setup as you are talking about, and i'm pretty certain that is what i am going to get... remember the higher the tempature (kelvin) the more blue it is... so a 10 000 is more blue than an 8 000, which is more blue than a 6500...
also discussed in another thread, was that the 55w typically washes some of the colour out, and makes them look like a lower tempature (10 000 looks like 8000) but i don't know if this is accurate or not... from what i remember on the site, the bulbs aren't much on their own, so if they are the wrong colour for me, i'll just end up buying new bulbs...
as for the hi/low kit, some areas, mine, for instance, requires you, by law, to have high and low beams! failure to have both can have your vehicle impounded and require a commercial vehicle inspection to have it deemed road worthy again... i know that here, you also have to have an illumination display that is automaticly activated to warn you that the highbeams are activated.
just be careful with what you choose... even if the hi/low suck, i'll pay the extra, 20$? to keep my truck from being impounded

I just put 5000k 35 watt ones in my projectors. not impressed at all with them. my silverstars still put out more light than the hids do. I will probably end up getting another kit, 55w with 8000k for the projectors, then sell the old kit. they have been in the truck for less than 1 week.

I love my 35w 5000k's in my fogs and low beams.. really bright and damn near white, there's a blue hue on warm up but that dies out.
I'm not sure what I want to do with the high beams. Probably silverstars so i don't need to wait for them to warm up when I use them, if I go HID's it'll probably be 55w 8000k

Good for everyone with aftermarket lights. Should you be driving with them on? No. At least in CA no more than 4 lights can be on. That includes 2 headlights and 2 fog lamps. All other lights have to be off and covered because it blinds people. I can see perfectly 95% of the time with just my headlights. The only times I've needed extra lighting is when offroad never on the road.

what is the difference between driving on a road outside of city limits, which does not have street lights, or any house lights to help you see, and driving off road? visability wise? the only difference i can see is when you are driving off road, you are going slower, so don't need to see as far in front of you to, to safely stop before hitting something that comes into your path... i'm not saying that yuo shouldn't use off road lights when you are off roading, merely that some people prefer to have additional light to see at night... additionally, here, where i live, there is no law about having your lights covered, only that you cannot use more than 4 lights at a time, and cannot have more than 4 lights in addition to stock (fog lights don't count) they can be used on the hiway, and i did use my IPF lights on my f-250 when on the hiway out of town... i would prefer to see a deer in the middle of the road a mile down, and be able to coast to a stop before getting to it, than have to slam on my breaks to avoid hitting it, because my headlights were only adequate... i'm also not trying to argue my point, or say that you are wrong for believing in what you do, merely that there are 2 sides of the coin, and even if you don't agree with the other, you have to respect it...

your head lights are always on at night, there for possibly blinding other people weather you want to or not.. after market offroad lights are(should be) wired separately and *shouldn't* be used on roads with other people on them..

AH I forgot about this thread. Again if you need 7349753975932 watts of lights to be on while driving anywhere but offroad then you shouldn't be driving at night. Or buy a car with IR vision. Too man bro douchbags drive around on the road with 4 extra HID lights on blinding everyone everywhere on the road.

I haven't run my fog HIDs in a while because i broke the bracket on the driver side one.. They kept blinding people but i couldn't aim them down more and thought it was just my truck.. Then i started noticing how high other Chevy fogs are aimed up too (to the point where they would annoy me up in a truck lol). guess its a chevy thing.
but damn, those fogs help more with my visibility than my headlights do.

you, sir.. just made an *** out of your self.. you're a certified moron.. Bright as **** Head lights (the ones you legally have to have on at night........) are different than OFF ROAD lights. COMPLETELY different argument.

if you cant see with stock headlights you shouldn't be driving period.. if you need 4 ******* 55w KC's on the front of your truck to see.. again get the hell off the road.
bombin *** across the desert of through the forest yea, you need light.. or if your out driving too fast across BFE West Texas, sure turn some bright lights on and make it day time again.. but there is absolutely NO need for that under normal driving conditions.
