Exhaust Length?

Ok I've searched on here and online and found no answer so I figured I'd ask yall...
I've heard that the shorter your exhaust is the more performance gains you get from it (hp and torque) and wondered if there was any truth to it. Or does the length even matter?

-Thanks

in our trucks no the length doesn't matter the shorter the exhaust the louder. unless you have a full built drag motor or something like that the length of the exhaust isn't going to matter.

If you want a loud exhaust get a loud muffler and dump it or straight pipes. but you will have highway drone. if you want loud get but no highway drone get a loud muffler and run it the whole way out the back.

I have straight pipes with the exhaust exiting 45 deg behind the rear tires and i have very little highway drone with music turned up so you can still talk i cant hear my exhaust.

Size of the pipe and length can be very important, to big of a pipe dia. can cause a loss of torque at low rpm while to short of a pipe can cause loss of hp and rpm at higher rpm. It is all about balance of heat, airflow and back pressure of the exhaust pulse.
