Well I have a squeek/clunk noise comming from my truck. It started Saturday while mudding but went away after a few mintues but came back Sunday morning. (on Sat I figured my belt was just wet)

It hasnt gone away since Sunday morning. Iv taken WD40 to the belt/fan ect every day since and it hasnt stopped. This morning I let it sit for awhile then turned it back on and it sounds like a rock/clump of dirt or something is stuck somewhere and is getting wipped around by another fan.

My dad and I power washed the engine bay after our mudding and it didnt go away after that. It sounds like its comming from inside the silver piece (dont know what its called) above/near the air intake tube...like something is in there being blown around or something. Then it starts squeeking. It dies down (not completely) when Im not on the accelorator, but the second I ease on the gas it gets louder.

Any suggestions?

Ill get a pic of the piece I think the sound is comming from when I get home so you guys now what Im talking about.

Take a pic of what you think it is... my money is still on the belt.. probably shouldnt have wd40'd it... could be slipping and causing either the fan clutch or a/c clutch or alternator clutch to make a noise. But thats just my guess based on what is sounded like Sat....

I took a few automotive classes and am taking more next semester, you should take the basic class, its very informative..

Which is not the problem because 1. If mud got in it, it would be dead (ask me how I know... :( ) 2. If a little pebble got in it, it would freeze up and die...

Well whatever it is its annoying and I wanna get it fixed before something breaks. (and i want to go mudding again)

its the alternator thats making the noise i think (same noise that it made Sat...high squeal and some clunking)

Ill have my dad check out what it is. he thinks its the belt also, so hell have to take it off and put it back on or something (thats what he says he has to do)

It could be bearings for the alt. pulley, BUT 3.0s tend to have a problem with the idler pulley going bad and causing a screeching noise. My parents had this happen on their '02 3.0. It would make an awful screeching noise some days...no clunking though. The idler got replaced and there has not been noise since. The idler is not an expensive part and you might want to have it checked out before messing with the alternator.

I'd say it is directly related to your "mudding". If you want to do that, get a shield for the alternator and expect more carnage in other areas. You have to pay if you want to play.

I know it was probably related to my "mudding" since it started AS we were out there.

A shield of some kind is a good idea. I also wanted to get some skid plates or something like the lvl II has. Any other specific areas I should be concerned with shielding?

I know I have to pay if I want to play, playing is to much fun to stop. :D Iv learned this lesson many times already.

I took my truck to Ford this morning to get the window washer fixed like they were supposed to last week, and for them to check out the squeeking...we shall see who guessed the closest...maybe you will get a cookie
