I have 2008 Ranger. The tailgate needs to be replaced (rusted). I was looking for used one and learned that apparently tailgate for 06-11 Rangers are different and much more expensive than earlier model tailgates. They look the same except for a location of the Ford emblem. What's the difference? Could 1999 tailgate be installed on 2006 and older trucks?

 

Yep, they are cross compatible. Not sure why one is more expensive.

I'm running a 2010 tailgate on my 2003 Ranger so there's no reason why a 99 tailgate won't fit a 2008.

A Mazda B-Series tailgate will work as well. Bonus. No emblem holes.
