Does it do it all the time or just under certain conditions?

Rangers have a tendency to wear tires funny. Look at your tire tread blocks inside row. You may notice some tread blocks low or higher than others and that will cause your thump.

check your front drive shaft maybe you blew one of the ujoint bearings or its coming loose?

Although that would mean it would have to vary with speed as would the sound if it was with the tires. Really to get the best help more details are needed.

It still could be your tires. If your alignment was off and tire got a spot and you rotated and then the tires that moved up now got a spot. So noise wil always be there till you get new tires.

you can feel the thumping in the gas pedal but not in the brakes also it isn't as bad when u go real slow or get on the highway iv had the hole front end apart lookin for this problem every thing seems to be solid and put together right the noise is only on the drivers side so I switched the tires from one side to the other no luck still there

I'm having a similiar problem with my 02 4x4 Ranger. I've changed both hubs, driveshaft U joints so far. Next up I'm going to check my front axles and change the fluid on both front Dif and transfer case. Mine only seems to do it between 20-50 mph.

I know my truck is in need of tires but I was hoping to make it until late fall so I can have new ones for the bad weather... for some reason I dont think its coming from the tires..but I could be wrong.

I rotated mine front to back with very little results. I'm thinking its either one or both of the CV joints or my front dif is low on oil. I'm going to drain my dif this weekend so I'll see what the oil looks like. Weird the cv joints I thought would make a clicking noise during turns and not a humming type noise. Worse case I'll have to get it checked out bc its pretty annoying.

How old are your shocks? If shocks are bad tires would lose contact with the road and bounce.

shocks would only do that on bumps...no? Mine does it on flat smooth pavement too.

I havent had a chance to dig into mine. I've been driving my Camaro ss :) , I'm thinking mine is either a bad cv axle or something in the front dif. Have you been able to check your dif fluid level?

how did you figure it out though? I thought I read you switched the tires off your friends truck and the noise was still there? I was thinking of switching the wheels with my friends Ranger to see if it made a dif on mine.
