taking a Ranger over Blackbear Pass?

For anyone who does any four-wheeling in southern Colorado...my dad and I recently took his truck over Black Bear Pass, and I was pretty excited to see a group of Ford Rangers crawling down the mountain too. So I wanted to take my truck over it too, and I was wondering if anyone else here had done it? I'm a little nervous and I was wondering if there was anything I should think about before I do it...

I wasn't sure where to post this...so sorry if it's in the wrong place! :silly:

I've never done Black Bear, but I 've known people who have. Here's the only catch to Black Bear, the switchbacks are real narrow, and if you mess up, it's a real real nice couple thousand foot drop before you stop. Ranger's shouldn't have issue since their wheelbase isn't all that bad at 126", hell I know a guy who took a Full Size Bronco over it with no issues... and they're only 20" shorter wheelbase.

But to answer your question, you'll be fine on it, just know to plan your turns carefully, and to not run it alone. By the way, Ouray/Telluride/Silverton area is my ABSOLUTE favorite wheeling area in the state

Sweet! Yeah we did it in a Tacoma with no real problems. Those switchbacks do get narrow. Thanks for the tips!

Anytime I go offroading I pull the ABS fuse out. Its not fun when you are turning and hit the brakes but nothing happens.

Sounds like a cool place to wheel though.

i dont use the brakes when i go wheeling. Never been to colorado, sounds like a fun time though.

yeah, it's really beautiful! I love four-wheeling in Colorado and also around Moab, Utah.

Sweet! I need to take someone with me anyway...no WAY am I doing that alone, haha!

That totally rocks. Telluride looks like it's about the size of a football field from up there...
