115mph and 8300rpm in my 98

Well after I got my new engine in I went down for a camping trip 100 miles away with my parents and I drove my 98. Now I kept it at about 75 the whole way down had no issues that sunday when I left I started it up and was leaving and check engine light came on I drove it home leary but it made it fine. Now I scanned the truck and the cam position sensor light was on which scared me because that and the gear is what killed my other engine.

Now I took the truck in to the guy because he said the sensor was out of wack or something but the truck was running fine. So he scanned it and and a special code came up that only dealers can see and clear and it said my truck was going 115mph and the rpms were 8300 rpms. Theres no way I had my truck going that fast because theres a govenor as I have the stock computer only diffference is Im running 25 inch diameter tires on my 17's for my drop. Now my dad is on my *** thinking I went that fast even though I told him there is a govenor set at like 93 and even rpms I think the limiter is set at like 5500 rpms. Something is weird here and the guy says if I have this problem again he wont guarantee it and I know theres no way in hell I went 115 in that truck and had the rpms up to 8300.

What do you guys think of this have any of you heard of this before?

a tuner will NOT fix a screwed up computer......it has to have a good computer to modify the program.....it wont rewrite the program...

He said the truck is running fine he timed the gear and cleared the code with the ford software and that the computer is fine.

So a Ford Technician doesn't know that a Ranger has a governor on it that keeps it below 100 mph? Not sure what engine your 98 has, but could any Ranger engine rev to 8300 without blowing up? I would talk to some other dealers and see if they can help you figure it out. I mean I would think they have to have documentation on the governors, or at least some test to know that the governors are still in place.

I am not sure if he knows of the govenor or not he didnt mention it I just assumed he may not of know of it. He is a ford technician and does the work out of his garage after he stopped working for dealers. He does great work I do know for fact the truck has a govenor because I have had it to 93 in the past.

So let me get this straight, if I ever get the ***** to get my truck up to 115mph, I'm going to throw a code just because of the speed I did?

and yes the truck does have a speed limiter that kicks in a 92mph.....and NO you wouldn't be able to rev the engine above 8000 rpm......6000 would be close to blow up point...

LMFAO... the guy sounds like a tool.

The "grenade point" for a stock Ranger 3.0 Vulcan motor is in the ~6,200 RPM range.... according to everything I've heard from BOSS 3.0 and Doug over @ RPS. I even think the 3.3L Stroker motors from Morona back in the day stayed under 6,500.

i dont even think Ford computers in 98 can record that data. wasnt it only GM that started that back in the 2000? someone verify that

i know my buddy's new (to him) 01 Dodge Cummins holds the data like that.

6200 on the 3.0 is the grenade point? Shoot, I wonder if i did any damage to my 4.0 a few weeks ago when it dropped a gear and revved to 5950

I highly doubt anything bad happened, as the SOHC is more "at home" in the higher RPMs. At least more-so than the 3.0

And it's 6,200~ish... 6,270 or something like that. IIRC...

I never take mine past 5,700.

BS

There is a trouble code set when the speed limiter or rev limiter is reached. The computer does not record the speed or RPM, just a simple code. He is either very misinformed or he is pulling your leg.

tell him next time that you would never go over 88mph because your flux compasitor will kick in and then BACK TO THE FUTURE!!

what i dont understand is, even with the smaller tires, the truck will still LIMIT your speed when it THINKS you're at ~95, even if you are really doing 75...

So sounds like hes trying to get you for some money...

Next time tell him to show you exactly what he is talking about, and you want to see it down on paper (printed from THEIR computer), that way you can take it somewhere else to confirm that

What a crock of crap. Unless your daddy installed a "tracker" device, the truck didn't record this data. It is simply impossible.
