Thinking about selling
 

Hi, I have had my Ranger since new 1n 2004. I am thinking about selling since none of my kids feel comfortable driving a stick. I was wanting some opinions of value (it is priceless to me). Here are the specs. 2004 xlt 2 wheel drive regular cab. 3.0l 5 speed, a/c, cruise control. This is what has been done to it. New fuel pump, water pump, motorcraft cam sensor, factory aluminum rims good tires. front end suspension has been redone, has new shocks. has a tri fold tonneau cover and a bed mat and seat covers. It has been a great truck and has 192000 miles (most highway) I am in florida. Any price opinions are appreciated.

Buyer sets the actual price.........of anything.

Best bet is to look at local craigslist, newspapers and Truck Trader ads
That's the competition for your future buyer

Not sure what the market is like in Florida for small trucks, Rangers usually go for more than other brands, they have a good a Rep

In the ads you will see the ASKING prices for similar small pickups.
See how long they have been advertised, that will tell you if ASKING price is too high to get any calls.
You can email sellers to see if they did sell it and for how much.


Running drive-able pickups always have valve, they are utility vehicles.

You should sell your truck in Stuart, lol, I think the $7,500 price means "not for sale" unless it comes with $4,000 rebate.

The $3,500-$4,000 ASKING range looks more realistic

My kids still thank me for "making" them learn to drive a stick, they groused about it at the time but are often the only ones in a group of friends that can do it when the need arises.

Your truck may hold a little more value since it is a one owner, if you have a complete service history that will help as well.

As mentioned in the above post, your truck is worth what someone is willing to pay.

I would clean the truck really good then drive it to CarMax and get a quote for what they will pay.

I have sold them a few vehicles in the past and was pleased with the offers they provided.

Back when Katrina hit there was a need for old 4x4s I sold my Bronco to them for more than I had in it.

At the time I thought the truck had 150K miles on it. based on what the previous owner told me and judging by the condition.

Yet CarMax discovered it had 350K miles and still purchased it for the same quoted amount after they found out about the mileage.

The lady at the counter whom handed me the check was the one that told me about the mileage and suggested I take the check and run LOL

even if you do not sell it to them that day you have a week I think to decide.

A printed quote keeps things in perspective when dealing with people from Craigslist.

Thanks for the replies. I have all the records of the work that has been done and most of it has been done by me except the clutch and transmission. I didn't think about CarMax and will definitely check them out.

I like CarMax mainly because I hate dealing with time wasters.

It seems anymore anytime I try to sell anything even at a give away price the phone will not ring yet I will get all kinds of people wanting to trade their crap for what I have or offer less than half the asking price without even reading the listing.

If I give the same thing away my phone will ring off the hook not stop till I delete the listing.

At some point I figure my time is worth more than trying to chase the last buck out of something I no longer want.

CarMAx kind of helps rip the band-aid off quickly allowing you to move on to better things with your time.

If you need to squeeze every dime out of your truck CarMax may not be the place for you unless they have a high demand for that particular truck even if they just plan on Auctioning it off.

Yet at least with the quote in hand you can take some time to feel the market out on your truck, to see if it is worth the hassle selling it off to a private party.

I looked and don't have a CarMax near me so I guess that isn't going to help right now. I hate dealing with Craiglist ads but I guess I will have to.
