thinking about selling the ranger.

so ive been thinking allot lately about getting rid of the ranger. it sucks after putting all of the work and money into it just recently but between fuel economy and the cost to insure the truck in my area its no worse than a larger truck like a f150 or a derdge/chevy 1500. assuming i can sell it for a respectable price thats kind of the direction id like to go. ideally id like to get myself into a diesel but one of those for the rite price are far and few between. my real question to all you is how much do you think i could list my truck for? ive looked a whole lot on craigslist at bone stock level 2's and they range in price anywhere from $9400-$18000 for the same year and similar kilometers. i know that i can basically cut my losses on all the mods when it comes to selling the truck but id hate to sell myself short on the whole thing. wen i bought my truck 2 years ago, they were asking $19999. i got the truck for $15500. ive listed it for $17000 two weeks ago and not had a single hit. am i out to lunch with what im asking? let me know what you guys think?

Rangers just aren't worth that much anymore. You can buy a new one for 20k ish. Being that I have gone from a ranger to an F150 and live in Maple Ridge, I will tell you that insurance is about $60 a month cheaper, BUT the fuel economy is not the same. I got 18-20mpg from my ranger and I get 13-16mpg in the F150. I'm really glad I traded my ranger 2 years ago. West Coast Ford gave me $15k for my 07 with 90k km on it. Your not going to recover your money from the SAS unfortunately. I just did a quick CL search, Most of the 06 rangers are going for 9-12k. Do you really NEED a full size truck?

Keep the ranger! You will not get the same fuel mileage with a 150 I bet and you've put a lot of work into the ranger already. If you don't need something bigger why upgrade? Thats they way I look at. (I speak from experience lol)

Ya dude, your ranger is beautiful. I'd totally keep it.

It sucks that rangers aren't worth anything anymore. It's not so much an issue of me needing a bigger truck as of now but more so a want issue. I hey taking friends around in the ranger because of the jump seats. I can't justify spending the money for a 4door taco but 4door f150s are more in my price range. Still not sure how much to list it for but I wanna list it on the high side of things and just hold onto the truck until the rite buyer comes along. I did feel a genuine moment of sadness when I posted my first cl add haha. I was hopeing for about $12000 on trade but two dealerships told me they won't buy my truck and the other quotes me stock fx4 price on trade of $10000 :(

I think that's actually pretty good

Mileage? If its average for the year, (60kish) i'd say the truck is worth about 13k if you sell it private party. To the right buyer, the mods could ad some value. 17k is way too much to be asking, in my opinion.

10k trade in i'd say is fair if you want to go that route. Most dealerships are going to stay away from it simply because of the mods you have done to it. You might be able to get a bit more if you sell it straight out to a privately owned dealership instead of going to Ford/Chevy/Dodge dealer.

Otherwise, like you mentioned, the mods won't add any value to the vehicle. To 90% of the buyers, the mods you have on it will be a negative in their book. It could even decrease the value of the truck overall. You just have to find that right buyer.

But overall, I say keep it. You've done a lot of work to it and you should enjoy it now. Ask yourself, do you REALLY need it? Would you enjoy a fullsize that much more? And please, don't go the Taco route. Way over-priced.

I dream all the time of getting a fullsize 4-door or a diesel. But then I realize I don't need either of them, and i'm happy with my Ranger. Although, I do have my Bronco if I ever really need to haul more then two people.

I think you could get $5k at best.. Better keep it :biggthump

Does not compute!

gatorblue92 10-26-2011 06:44 PM

keep it and buy a small commuter car like a civic or focus

Is that last picture in your CL ad?

I'd keep it and lower it a couple inches.

-spilly 10-28-2011 12:42 AM

Haha no the last pic is not in my cl add. But I've been doing allot of thinking over the last few days and I think I'm going to hold onto the truck for now. As much as I'd love a 4door f150 or something similar I just don't want to be paying of another thruck. I'm gonna get some new tires down the road and just have fun with it until I break it lol
