Thinking of getting a Ranger
Thinking of getting a Ranger
I'm new here, but came looking for information / experience from those with first-hand knowledge.
I've always liked the Ranger from years back, but when they discontinued it, I ended up going to the Chevy Colorado. I've got a 2016 Colorado and it's about time for me to start thinking about a new truck, so when Ford brought back the Ranger, I was intrigued.
I suppose my main questions revolve around issues with the new Ranger design. Are there any known / common issues with it that you can share? I'll be reading through the forum, of course, but thought it might be good to get feedback this way.
Thank you for any information you can provide!

Welcome to the forum
Well its only been in the US/Canada since 2019, so not alot of miles on these yet, but.......................
Ford has been building the same vehicle since 2011 for international sales only, seen here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Ranger_(T6)
The T6 model had different drive trains, mostly Diesel and lots of manual transmissions, which are more popular overseas
The North America version has the gasoline 2.3l DOHC 4cyl turbo engine with 10 speed automatic, which are both fairly new but the 2.3l DOHC non-turbo was used in Rangers 2001-2011 and was known for reliability
The 10-speed automatic was a GM-Ford design, not sure if thats better or worse to have the "big 2" working on the same design, lol, time will tell
They are "new" to North America and New Models, so there will be recalls and parts will be scarce if its a common failure to this model.
I have read nothing that looked like a major issue, there have been software updates needed to the transmission shift control
