Way too much damage for the price.

DSmith18 02-23-2011 07:31 PM

If you can talk him down into the 3ks then i'd say possibly, whole lot of damage though...

tml4761 02-23-2011 07:39 PM

3 grand! take it or leave it!

Plus its a 4.0sohc with 110k miles, that is asking for trouble. I would run, run as fast and as far as possible.

The damage there looks irreparable without replacing body panels + paint = $$$$$

Umm...wtf are you smoking? The 4.0 is a good motor. 110k miles isn't that bad on that motor.

coleary15 02-23-2011 07:54 PM

i might ask for 3800 just so when i sell mine for around 4500, ill have enough cash to get a new window and some paint if i can get the dents out by myself. the bed doesnt bother me, just the damage on the cab.

the1nicko 02-23-2011 08:00 PM

Ford extended the warranty on them to 100,000 miles because of the timing chain tensioner problem. There was a recall on it. 110k miles seems just about right for it to start giving you problems. Not really an issue of if its going to happen but when. Theres nothing wrong with the motor, but I personally wouldnt want to buy a car knowing I might have to tear apart the whole front end of the motor.

To the OP you can contact the dealer to see if this recall was done on this truck.

Timing chain tensioner issues are pre-02 1/2 4.0 SOHC. After 2002 1/2 they fixed the issue.

2003s are the best 4.0 SOHC year IMO. Still the old wiring and no electronic speedo and odo but no timing chain issues.

whoops!

98liftedranger 02-23-2011 10:25 PM

I agree, that is way to much for that truck. i'd offer the guy 2500, then maybe 3000 if i was feeling generous. it'd be a great truck otherwise.

coleary15 02-24-2011 05:50 AM

yeah my buddy has a timing chain tensioner problem in his 2002, its just really noisy. im gonna talk to the guy and see what i can get it for, and probably just drive it around like that for a while

894banger 02-24-2011 06:31 AM

it'll be a good running truck but as too much damage for my taste for the price, unless you work at a body shop or are good with sheet metal fab and good at taking out dents like that

coleary15 02-24-2011 07:49 AM

well im leaving for the national guard in june and im getting trained in metal fab and body repair

if you can drive a dented truck around for a while, this would be a nice truck for you to tinker on then IMO. but i still wouldn't offer the guy much over 3k

If you can wait until June then see if you can get a nice vehicle from a non-rust-belt state for a decent price. I see nice vehicles all the time for under $1000.00, ready to go, no rust, no wrecks, maybe need douche and fresh paint, but gets you a nice starting point. I would rather spend $1000.00 more for a rust free area vehicle because for every area of rust you see there are 10 or more you don't see in inner panels, door frames, etc.

coleary15 05-03-2011 08:00 AM

well i bought the truck and paid 4,200, popped the dents out of the front fender, the ones in the cab i hammered out for the most part but im just gonna weld on a new cab corner, and most of them on the bed took one hit to pop out. im going to buy a new door because and cant get it lined up right and i have no access to the dents from the indide. now all thats left is bondo and paint.

Masteratarms93 05-03-2011 09:01 AM

Good deal!! Start a build thread!!

coleary15 05-13-2011 08:27 AM

a thread for the body work? or if i decide to lift it? i want to get a set of rock sliders, or some b lack side steps and have them pushed in to look like a set haha

thompsonmike 05-14-2011 02:47 AM

ok its good..then you can spend some handsome amount and get it done.

coleary15 05-16-2011 06:20 AM

the bodylift is going to be the worst
