Tint: Do it myself or have it done?

I wanna do two things as far as tint. I wanna remove the 20% on my back window and go to 5% and on the driverside and passenger side front windows I wanna do, maybe50%? Is this something relatively easy or does it require alot of pateince? Something I am currently out of stock on....

It's very simple to do it yourself, get the pre-cut tint for the truck which dont need tobe cut to shape.Clean the glass, soapy water, apply, remove excess water and air bubbles, dry and its done.
I did mine in less than an hour and it looks perfect.

I'd get it done professionally. Most places will warranty the tint for life on whatever the legal tint limit in the state is. That way if it starts to bubble and all that 6 years down the road, you don't have to pay again for removal and re-installation. Unfortunately for me, my tint place (just around the corner from my work) got bought out, moved, changed their name, and now I don't know where they are if they even exsist anymore.

I have done it myself and had it done. If you haven't done it before just pay a shop IMO. It shouldn't be more than $70 and take more than 30 minutes. I had mine done (two doors) for $50. If you have any problems they will fix it.

I bought the cheap static cling stuff before for my old Cutlass......CRAP!!
The sticky glue type is better and easy to apply, but if you've never used it before, you can mess up fast and it's a PITA to try and fix after.

I found it easier to get it done professionally. I know most tint shops have super good cheap deals, but never take their cheapest deals as it's always the lowest quality film. Level II tints are excellent and the most common for people who know to stay away from the Level I tints. Most places the staff is contracted out there, which means 9/10 times the guy does his own tints at home in his/her garage too.

I found a guy that contracted to Apple Auto Glass, but his company was Fast Track Performance. He lived near me and that's who I got to do my Truck as well as my sisters Focus and a buddy's truck.

Definatly shop around, but I say get it done professionally. If you're short on cash, ask for a tint job as a birthday gift or something.

Buddy of mine used to work for his uncles shop, the tint shop I used, and they had the second best quality stuff on the market... can't remember the name. He charged a little bit more, but it didn't turn purple like you see tints do. He used to carry 3M, but they ended up treating him like garbage and wouldn't live up to his demand so he dropped them. Find a shop that does 3M, it's the best stuff on the market and like I stated, most shops will warranty it for life.

Get it done professionally and don't go cheap. Unless you like looking through Purple window? They guy I bought My impala from did it himself and it looks OK, but it is Purple from the UV rays and it has a tear on the back window. Now because I have Rear defrost I have to Pay a Good amount of money to have it removed. My friend Dennis had his done by a place with a lifetime warranty and his is 10 years old now and still looks new.

if you can hang wallpaper, you can manage this job.

i can (and have) done both (tint and wallpaper), and i still had mine done by a shop, lol. well worth it for the 60 bucks imo. the warrenty and quality of tint this particular shop used was my main reason for having someone else do it.

also... if you decide to do it yourself, make sure to do your research before you buy any precut pieces... many online dealers sell that cheap tint that turns purple.. look for some quality names and make sure the seller is actually selling what they claim

Doing it yourself is a PITA, you have to make sure you dont get lint or any crap stuck to the film then work it, you have to have the paitence of a saint to do it.

I had mine done it would be about $150 max to do the windows you want any shade of tint, and it would be warrentied

NYS law, Back can have ' Limo ' or 5%. Max on the sides is 25%. Driver/Passenger windows and windshields cannot be touched without a Doctors note for Photophobia or medicinal reasons.

And I thought Ohio was bad. Have fun.

I like warranty's go to shop. I got quoted for $75 for the mid-grade tint and warranty, waiting till summer to get the windows done tho.

get it done professionally, the back window (especially if it's a split-plane) is gonna be a PITA if you try it yourself.
