towing a car, questions

just want to confirm everything. im sure ill be fine just want input. buddy is trading his ae86 corolla track car for a 92 turbo mr2. the rolla weighs in at about 2200 lbs and the mr2 at 28. i should be cool towing these with my 4L ranger correct? if not ill just see if i can borrow my dads 2500 sierra lol

dixie_boysles 02-06-2010 11:39 PM

Ur truck is rated at almost 6K (5600 I think) lbs on thr hitch so u should be fine assuming your not towing it on one heavy ass trailer

Tys 4x4 FTW 02-06-2010 11:44 PM

My friend is taking care of the trailer so hopefully it's not a heavy ass uhaul!

camodown 02-06-2010 11:57 PM

you should be fine

Ranger093 02-07-2010 12:09 AM

NEVERMIND I'm dumb as hell.

Snow Wolf 02-07-2010 01:48 AM

dude... it will do just fine... i towed my 3800 lbs 1974 dodge charger with my 87 Ranger 2.3l and it did ok...

02XLT 02-07-2010 08:07 AM

Just get the 3/4 ton sierra, it will be a much more enjoyable pull...

Agreed fully

atrocity 02-07-2010 11:42 AM

i tow 3k+ often with no problems and that's with a 3L, you should be fine, just expect crappy gas mileage. What kind of trailer are you gonna be using?

tractorman 02-07-2010 09:32 PM

Hope you have trailer brakes wired up for the truck.

Tys 4x4 FTW 02-07-2010 09:38 PM

well the uhaul trailers have something of the sort that help out. and its all gonna be open highway driving.

lol trailer brakes are for babes... towed that charger without trailer brakes. :)

04blackedge 02-07-2010 10:30 PM

How is being unsafe something to be proud of? Its stupid

steveo1271 02-07-2010 10:43 PM

it will pull it, but if you can get a bigger truck to tow it with why not use it,and if you think trailer brakes are for babys tell that to a cop one day when you rear end somebody and hurt them because you thought you didnt need more stopping power

morris 02-07-2010 10:52 PM

i think you'd be ok. also those u-haul trailers have some sort of braking device right above the hitch mount. it looks like a cylinder of some sorts with an extension or piston at the front of it.

Snow Wolf 02-07-2010 10:56 PM

first of all that was a joke... 2nd thing, when you don't have the money you use what you got. and when i did that, that is all i had.

ok
go get trailer brakes if you don't got them. or get a bigger truck.

yes u-haul trailers have hydraulics trailer brakes. you got to put a pin in the brake booster to back up.

Tys 4x4 FTW 02-07-2010 11:01 PM

horse trailers have these too. my buddy used his dad's chev and i recognize the whole process about putting the wire in, in case of accidental disconnect.

Jrevans2002 02-07-2010 11:19 PM

you could be done with the tow before you read through all these threads..

Tys 4x4 FTW 02-07-2010 11:23 PM

not up to me when we go. waiting on my buddy to finalize everything.

Snow Wolf 02-07-2010 11:35 PM

is this a one time tow, or are you going to do this a lot?

Tys 4x4 FTW 02-07-2010 11:37 PM

its only gonna be this one time. but it'll be about a 3 hour drive to where we have to go.

Snow Wolf 02-07-2010 11:41 PM

and the car is around 2200 lbs

Tys 4x4 FTW 02-07-2010 11:43 PM
