Toyo Tires
Guys,
I am looking at buying new tires for my 2004 Ranger ( XLT 4 X 4 extended cab ) I have been looking at 265/70R16 Toyo Open Country A/T II Tires I like the aggressive looks. But I have a couple of questions. 1) Does anyone have feedback on these tires? good or bad. They have really good reviews. 2) Any other suggestions on an aggressive looking tire? 3) Am I ok going with this wider tire? ( stock size is 245/75/R16 ) They are .3 tenths of an inch taller. Any comments or feedback is welcome. Larry |
If you can find someone with the same treads it would be good to ask about road noise
The more aggressive the tread the more air can get between the treads, when tire is compressed against the road surface at highway speeds air escaping makes noise, sometimes LOTS of noise. Thats just one of the pitfalls of aggressive treads, hard to avoid it completely, but some are better and some are worse. |
I don't have any experience with Toyo's.
I do have with Falken A/T3W. - They have gotten me through multiple off road trips -- Mojave road (Sand, Dirt, Rocks, water crossings, etc...) -- Mountain roads in dry and snow conditions I would recommend them. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.ran...3522602e61.jpg |
Also, size wise you would be fine with yours.
Here is your tire size compared to my tire size. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.ran...13c94daad7.png |
I saw a review where they raved about the tires but the only negative was that there was a "slight hum" at highway speed.
|
I don't notice any hum and I have a pretty heavy lead foot.. But I do blast music pretty loud on highways.
But I like the sound of driving off road without music. |
Last couple of sets i have had were/are Firestone Destination A/T and currently Kumho Road Venture AT51.
Both excellent performers in all conditions, the Firestones were quieter on the highway.. |
I haven't tested any Toyo tires, yet, but I've tried 31" Firestone and Cooper tires after I've tried BFGoodrich, and I've turned into a BFG whore. ;)
Very quiet at highway speeds and durable AF. I like the tread pattern of these Nitto Terra grapplers. I MIGHT spend a few bux later to see how they go, but my current generic China-made meats (was low on cash at the time) still have plenty of life in them. |
