How many miles you have on the Ranger. The Si's and Wrx are chains, atleast the new ones are

wrx would be awesome.... but they arent the most reliable either.

the K20 is a chain. The all Subaru are belts the EJ25 is a reliable motor but like all subi's head gaskets are common by the way the oil and coolant settles with gravity.

Personally I'd go subi. Perfect all around. Great performan/handling. Decent mpgs and way more fun factor year around.
