Tranny is doing weird things again.

My tranismission acts like its slipping but its not. It wont do this when the cruise is on ether.

BTW My truck is a 4.0 4wd AUTO

When I am just cruising down the road at any speed my truck will all of a sudden have a bad hit in the tranny. Almost like you push in the clutch and then dump it really fast without letting off the gas. But when It does this the RPMs never drop or rise

Na it did it before the new tires.

I think it has something to do with the moisture. The first time it did it is when we where all coming home from the crackel barrel meet. Then it stopped for a while then it does it sometimes. After I got my new tires on it started snowing really hard and It started doing it really bad, after a while it stopped. Maybe the snow go packed in therer and didn't let the water in? Now that it is dry out it stopped.

OK this may sound stupid but maybe you hit a patch of ice in the road that you didn't see and it was just the tires losing traction?

I also have a 4.0 4wd auto tranny, and have the same problem. The tranny seems to hesitate when I first start driving, then stops after awhile....who knows. Ive had the Ranger in the shop 8 times after 26,000 miles, and and am sorry I traded in my 02
Tacoma on this 04 Ranger...

Transmissions have been a weak spot on our trucks. I feel blessed my 3.0 auto hasn't had problems. There's a valve body modification/upgrade that gets rid of a lot of problems in the 5 speeds. They have funny shift schedules and pressures because of that "found" gear between the original 1st and 2nd gears that we now call second. Whatever they did seems to affect everything and I'm surprised they haven't fixed it by now.

I use a tuneable program to modify my shift pressures to get around it, but after I rebuild this tranny for 4x4 use I'll have the valve body mod in and won't need it.

eh is it more of a 'jerking' sensation? My truck had all kinds of probs and the problem still exists to this day. Generally occurs between 35 and 40. Usually if its REALLY wet outside, like its been raining all day, somewhat warm out and then misty... itll act up. Its an electrical connection somewhere on the tranny, infact i think its like a $400 solenoid. the dealer has replaced it on my truck like 5x now LOL I put dum dum on all my connectors under the truck and that has pretty much solved the problem, but its still there.

Everyone just needs to buy my valve body kits. That will solve any and every problem you guys are complaining about. You can throw a shift kit in your valve body, but all you are doing is prolonging a problem. My kits may seem pricey, but I promise you it will fix the problems referred to in this thread and you wont believe what our transmissions are capable of after fixing the weak spots in them!!!!!!

Edit: Josh, sounds like you have a bad TPS. But you still need to buy a valve body kit
