trip = 1750 miles leave on the 33MT or swap to the 31AT

going to Rossville GA to pick up my birthday present
I calculate the trailer + boat/motor at 1000 pounds or less
crossing the Smokies on the way to my cousins place in Newton NC - elevation about 6500'
bought the boat via the crappy pictures here on eBay
gent selling seems OK and I think a part time boat dealer and semi-pro bass fisherman

So do I swap out the bigger tires for pulling power and tread life or
leave them for the possible addtional gas mileage given the extra 2" in rotation
it is about a %7 difference on the speedo
leaving NJ after 5PM NOV 10th and want to be in Rossville, GA by 12PM on the 11th

DISCUSS....

i wold leave the tires on the33s

V8 Level II 11-09-2006 06:13 PM

I would do the 31 AT's for better wear and better pavement traction. I doubt that the taller MT tires will improve your fuel economy when pulling a trailer.

04lvl2 11-09-2006 06:15 PM

I would put the 31s on for sure.

shadyluke 11-09-2006 06:23 PM

I really don't know what to tell you. How much does it cost to remount and balance the 31s and then do it again to the 33s when you get back.

LILBLUE04FX4L2 11-09-2006 06:34 PM

they are my winter tires, cleaned mounted and sitting in the crawlspace
looks like I am getting up early tomorrow....

Scapegoat 455 11-09-2006 06:37 PM

definately go with the 31s

HighRollerII 11-09-2006 07:02 PM

I didn't realize you had them mounted already. I knew the MTs were on your Alcoas. I would defintely put the 31s on then.

31s MTs can be pricey to just wear them out on a big road trip that does not involve wheelin or pics with us :)

zabeard 11-10-2006 07:08 AM

31s for sure. you will need the power in the mountains.

Trevelyn1015 11-10-2006 09:09 AM

are you going to get your alignment done, once you switch from the 33's to 31's?

and if so, do you have a lifetime alignment, or would you have to pay for it?

LILBLUE04FX4L2 11-10-2006 09:13 AM

Hi Christian - never had an alignment done when the 33's went on and wear has been fine and regular

Cape Fear 11-10-2006 09:22 AM

100% 31s. You will hate pulling a boat over the mountains with 4.10s and 33s. I don't think my trucks that great on its own with that combo in the mountains.

Nice looking skiff btw

elmo_4_vt 11-10-2006 09:46 AM

Definitely go with the 31s if it's not too much trouble. I get worse gas milage on my 33 MTs than I ever did with my 31 ATs, that goes double with pulling.

31s would definitely be your best bet.

99ranger4x4 11-10-2006 11:42 AM

did someone mention the 31's being more expensive?

anyways, i would say 31's, if i had to haul something that far i would go down a size or 2...
i know everyone has experienced the loss of power w/ bigger tires, thats my reasoning.. bc my gas milage didnt change really, i still get 12 gal/mile
