Tune Up

Here's my list, can you guys think of anything else? I'm almost at 75k miles and I'm going on a 3000 mile roadtrip to Texas next month so I want the truck in tip top shape.

Plugs
Wires
Run some PM-3 through it
Front and rear brakes
Ball joints and control arms
Shocks
Fuel filter
Air filter was changed a couple hundred miles ago so thats still fine
Clean MAF and IAC
Alignment
PCV valve
Change diff, trans, oil and coolant

Anything else?

Fx4wannabe01 Jan 25, 2009 04:28 PM

Fx4wannabe01 Jan 25, 2009 04:29 PM

04blackedge Jan 25, 2009 04:30 PM

Fx4wannabe01 Jan 25, 2009 04:33 PM

04blackedge Jan 25, 2009 04:36 PM

Coolant flush trans fluid and filter change.

Takeda Jan 25, 2009 04:49 PM

04blackedge Jan 25, 2009 04:51 PM

My ford manual says once you remove it to replace it with a new one, correct?

NO!!! I would never reccomend a flush. EVER. Just a pan drop and fluid + filter change.

That is absolutely worthless! The most ATF that you change by just dropping the pan is 4 qts. The entire system holds about 10 qts, with a lot of it in the torque converter, which does not have a drain plug. A tranny flush is the
recommended tranny service at Ford.

Yes, it is located towards the back of the valve cover on the driver's side.
It pulls out of a rubber gromet in the valve cover.

you need a tire rotation good sir

robert99ranger Jan 25, 2009 05:42 PM

Stock fuel filter with that many miles, thats nothing. I am still going on stocker at 132,000. Probably change it this summer. Your list looks good to me.

Did that in the last month, good idea though.

I do need an alignment though.

That's awesome. If he has a high mileage vehicle and has never done a tranny flush then there is a chance he could say bye-bye tranny. If you're going to flush your tranny you should do it throughout the vehicles life, not start later on. But hey, do whatever you want.

Jeromeo Jan 25, 2009 06:57 PM

Perhaps you could do a seafoam treatment???

did my tranny flush at 68k when i got my truck and that was the first time, no issue aside from better shifts.

Thats what Pm-3 is, but better

I'm going to go ahead and do a tranny flush and take my chances.
