2.5L to 3.8L
Hey guys. I'm doing a 2-3 year project on my 2000 Ford Ranger 2.5L. I have a laundry list of things to do/get done. This included painting, new wheels (I've already gone through two in a year due to wreck and broken air seals), 2-3inch lift, new driveshaft, rear locking diff, and eventually an engine swap.
I have 125k on my 4cyl and it's coming up on that "I'm about to start nickel and dimeing you" stage. My buddy, who has an 01 2.3L, has replaced fuel and water pumps, distributor cap, and a bunch of other stuff, all at 135k.
I am trying to decide what engine I want to use. Defiantly a Ford but not a V8. I don't need that power or that crap gas mileage. I also want more power than my 119-125hp 2.5L. I am think either a 3.8L out of a 2000-2004 Mustang or a 4.0L out of a 03+ Ranger. I kinda want to 3.8 for a little bragging rights and individuality over 4.0Ls.
Has anyone attempted this? How difficult would it be to do a 3.8 over a 4.0? Will I need to purchase more stuff to do the 3.8 opposed to the 4.0? I'm really at a crossroads here so any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Kevin
P.S. Sorry I didn't post in an engine specific forum. I wasn't sure where to talk about 3.8Ls HAHA.
