Undercoating
anyone think that using herculiner for a undercoating would be a good idea.... or what i really am asking anyone done it, would it hold up... im doing a body lift next week sometime and while the bed and the cab is off the frame im going to undercoat them.. and maybe do the frame too

i would use either rubberized undercoating (messy and kinda cheap, $3-4/can). Rustoleum oil based enamal paint (good and cheap, $25/can) or POR-15 (best but $$$)
|
i hope your not planning on taking the whole body off. i didnt, you just do one side at a time. oh and i just a 94 cent can of black spray paint once a year.
|
I'm not sure yet what im going to do yeah por 15 would be awesome but not going to spend that kind of money to do what i want to do... and since now that im buying a matco tool box for work think i might just go with some spray

id go with rubberized undercoating from wal-mart. cheapest and easiest, plus its durable.

roger that

Maybe clean it well first, then spray paint black..followed with a coat of rubberized undercoating. I've done similar stuff with my truck and that holds up best. The undercoating will chip away over time so having the paint under it will help some

Keep in mind that anything you put on the frame will come off whenever you jack the truck up or anything. It is coated in wax from the factory, nothing else. The wax is actually very good at preventing rust, but it does come off fairly easily. I would try cleaning the frame before actually putting anything on it.
For the body I would do what Mark said. |
