update on crank-a-saurous

1 Attachment(s)
im naming my truck crank a saurous because thats all she seems to do. doesnt wanna start up for anything

fuel cut off switch is still depressed
fuel pump still whining
no major fuses blown
PATS disengaged
computer reset
got good fuel in the tank
ive tapped on all relays to jiggle them loose if stuck
and tried to jump using a buds car no avail.

the battery didnt even charge a bit. previously i cranked it till the battery died, had friend come over, hook up jump cables from post to post on + & - and no charging whatsoever. then when i tried to crank while his car was on and hooked up mine did nothing...yet again. so whats the deal here?

Fuel filter been changed? Check for fuel pressure at the rail?

Ford04Ranger4.0 03-26-2012 07:47 PM

Check the coil too, see if your getting spark.

thank you for replying, yes the filter was changed only a year ago

where is the valve located at

and how do i go about checking the coil? you mean check for spark at the plugs or the actual coil

Ford04Ranger4.0 03-26-2012 08:17 PM

Check for resistance at the coil or unbolt it and check for cracks. The fuel rail should have a pressure port(looks like a valve stem with a cap). Sounds like a coil if you ask me but thats my 2 cents.

sounds like a crank position sensor actually. bad sensor = no spark = no start and crank all day.

off the top of your head is the CPS known to just go out or kinda work some days then not others. some morning itd fire up in a crank or two, others its a battle to get it running. and some days its like this....nothing

ive heard the cp sis common with the motor, tis true?

well when I did wires and all a few months ago I inspected the factory pack and it was in awesome shape.no cracks, good color inside and out of individual ports. good grease whch I then took off and replaced and all was well till a few weeks ago when this issue started, then went away, now has come back for good

eh.... you could always torch it, and claim it was stolen

meistreguy 03-30-2012 12:32 PM

You said your PATS was disengaged. Hook it back up. If it isn't that then I suspect your fuel pump is going bad, check your fuel pressure. If you don't have a gauge, just push in the schrader valve (It looks like a valve on a tire at the end of the fuel rail) and see if the fuel squirts out. If it just dribbles out then you have lost fuel pressure.

UPDATE:

old everlast/start battery from Jan/10 was shot. As is idk if that was the issue at hand.

However, went to wally world, bought a everlast/start Max battery with over 100 more cold cranking amps and well over 130 cranking amps for 80$ and truck fires up in a split second. maybe since I let the computer sit for 2 days without a battery connected to the truck the computer hard reset and fixed the malfunction.

also, I had a buddy flip the key to 'run' position and pressed valve in the engine bay and fuel slammed into the underside of the hood so shes got pressure.

thanks to all that replied but after all was said and done I believe the computer just needed a good ole resetting. if anything else pops up ill report.

thanks to all
