Update on the progress
i'm calling this Project "Saggy Pants" heres what we got so far the Body lift is almost removed completely...waiting to get paid for the lift to get the air management system i'm just gonna bag the rear right now and if i deside i want to go all the way around bagged then i will then anyway heres the progress
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...4/Apr30722.jpg This is all the crap that will be relocated http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...4/Apr30721.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...4/Apr30723.jpg Question on this picture if i take the rear hanger and flip it and bolt it in an then weld it i could lower the truck more right not really sure how low it'd go but it looks possiable and safe to me any thoughts on this http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...4/Apr30720.jpg |
get it done so you can come to the meet next Sat
|
All that work we did... :blackeye:
But good luck on what your doing... btw... How much gas money are you going to save after lowerin it... and spent the money to lower it... |
Yes...flipping the stock hangers is common. Just use 8 grade #8 bolts and your set...no welding required. I think it'll give you about 1.5"
|
However, if you don't do something with the front one, you'll whack out your pinion angle and you'll probably need shims.
Raising the back 3" (which gives you 1.5" of suspension drop) will nose the pinion down by around 3 degrees. Might be enough to cause vibration -- although it's hard to tell and 4x2's have longer driveshafts which makes them a bit less sensitive to the angle. |
haha yea bag that sucker all the way around and get that frame sittin on the ground!
|
yeah mr griggs thats what i was noticeing about the pinon angle thats why id dint' do it tonight.... i did how ever take the top 2 leafs from a 4 door exploer and put them on there getting ready for the mono leaf set up.... and that took at 2 inch's i'll get pictures tommorow....what i'm needing now is some new u bolts
"shorter" and about 14 or 16 grade 8 bolts....it will really not be ready on saturday... i'v got barely enuff money right nwo to buy anythign i need to get this done so i'm lowering the cheap way until i get it bagged.. i think i'm olny bagging the rear right now thou..gonna bag the rear ride on stock tires for a while save my money then get some nice looking rims not to flashy but nice and then bag the front... |
mono leaf is yucky
|
dude ur gonna hate the ride u have with a mono leaf set up is gonns be super sh*ty
|
i'm not sure if i'm gonna keep it yet or not cause...i really don't wanta move the gas tank but i might have to
|
and honestly i'm used 4 door explorer springs which are a stiffer spring so the ride mighht not be that bad but we will see..i'v got pictures i just need new U bolts now...also i guess u could say i have a Bi springs set up i have 2 springs....i think i'm gonna filp the leaves under the axle and the bag it i might be able to drag it with it this low but i'm not sure yet
|
al right finally got the rear donw right now... i'm still going to flip the hanger tommorow some time when ever i can get my drill to work i went from 25 inchs to a little pver 23 inch's.....Frame to ground int eh rear note i'm still running 31's on the back so it'll drop down nice when i get those other tires on there
heres the diffrence in the springs i put on the truck http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...4/May01727.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...4/May01731.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...4/May01726.jpg |
ok finally i'm done with the rear.... i'm still desideing if i want to bag..the truck or not....moms not a big fan of me cutting teh bed..."doesn't have a problem with me cutting teh frame but not the bed" "Note to self parents are weird" anyway i put on the explorer leaf springs...the spring pack goes like this.....Main Leaf,2nd leaf,Over load leaf....and it rides good for not haveing shocks... also fliped the rear hangers so the back of the frame is 19inch's above then ground
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...4/May05738.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...4/May05739.jpg i'v still got to take out the coil spacer thats up front...and maybe cut the coils i'm not completely sure yet....and i'm looking for a nice set of 18's not to flashy but not to plain nether.... kinda like these http://www.jtsnow.com/racelineDIVA.jpg i like how they look....and they would look good i think....any suggestions on rims....cause i'v got to have new tires....cause i burnt these to hell and back when i got my 31's...but anyway what do yall think? so far i think it's gin great i'd love to bakc it but i'm not sure yet and if i do it'll be done right not half ass'd |
Buy drop coils cutting them is a bad idea. A coil sping is flat on both ends. If you cut it, it is pointy on one end. Therefore the pressure is more concentrated in one place. This leads to failing the spring or destroying theplate that the coil sits on.
Wow I am already using the stuff I learned in college....amazing |
Whether u wanna cut the bed or not if u bag it sadly ur gonna have to if u wanna lay out cuz the axle is gonna stop once it hits the bed also ull prolly need more room for the notch to poke up cuz ur gonna need like a 6 or 8in notch if u wanna lay even. Now if u wanna go super low and not bag it and u really dont care about ride quality u can do this leave the hanger's flipped then flip the rear so the axle rests ontop of the leafs of course ur gonna need a notch at that point. Then for the front get the control arms and the drop coils then for it to go lower the then 4" in the front take it to someone who knows wut they are doing with a plasma cutter and get em to cut the same amount off both coils, and then im guessing u'd prolly be sitting at a 6-6.5" drop for the front and 7-7.5" for the rear. If u wanted u could always go lower just get blocks for the rear and cut more off the coils of course this is if u just dont wanna bag it and u just do not care about ride quality.
|
no it'll get bagged some time down the road thou.. right now i tink i'm just gonna cut the coils until i can save enuff for rims and baggs..i'm gonna go with those rims i posted if i can find some at a good price
|
Whoa Doggy heres some updates on the progress.... so far i'm done with the rear besides shocks....still need to lower the front end and also need to get me some rims lol....my tires are bald bad! and need new gear change...hers some pictures i removed all the mud flaps...and it gave it a way diffrent look i kinda like it lower so does my mom lol anyway heres some pics
heres the height i got the rear at http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...4/May06781.jpg I deff need a roll pan http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...4/May06783.jpg another shot http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...4/May06765.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...4/May06763.jpg |
DO NOT JUST BAG THE REAR!!!!
It will look goofy, any real minitrucker ive talked to will tell you "i like to lay out the front" As I have my front bagged, I can honestly say i would rather have front bagged than rear anyday even if i cant drag yet. http://img28.echo.cx/img28/3154/welding4gq.jpg MY shackle flip :) You need to slow it down a bit also, don't waste your time and money on a stupid over the axle setup. YOur pinion angle is gonna be ****ed up and your gonna wanna link it later! |
i'm more or less not going to bag uit anytime soon maybe next month...but thats pushing it.. i am going to bag the front first or do the hole thing the first time around all i'm going to do right now is get my rims.....and then adjust the front to where it looks good and doesn't rub "to bad" and then drop it around the rims..if you know what i mean
