Thats a good idea, how would you wire it up, straight to the battery?

you need a plunger switch for the hood light or else it would stay on all the time, the glove box light you could hook into the haedlights somehow or a plunger switch for during hours of darkness when you didnt have the headllights on, could/should be a fairly simple fixup depending on how high tech you wanted it.

Could you just run a wire to a switch inside the cab for the light under the hood?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm positive that my 02 XLT has a glovebox light. I'd go look to make sure, but I'm driving my mom's VW Passat for the week while she hauls some stuff with my truck.

My 2003 XLT has a glovebox light from the factory.

Most underhood lights use an internal mercury switch to turn them on/off when the hood is moved to a different angle. Wiring is as simple as running a wire to a constant hot, adding an inline fuse if necessary. Ford underhood lights usually have a dedicated ground wire but some manufacturers use a case ground through the mounting fasteners (won't work on a composite hood like 2001~2003 Edge/4x4!)

$5 underhood light:

For the glove box, you could probably just mount a white LED up at the top and hook it up to your lights. It'd be a simple solution and would provide you with some light.

You can look into getting a 2003-back Ranger glove box light. The 2004 is the first year Ranger that doesn't have one. My guess is that it would bolt right in and you would need to run one wire to the LG/OR at the Smart Junction Box.

I would think the glove box light would be easy. Momentary switch rigged up so when the box is closed it would hold the button in. Should beable to find parts at your local radio shack.
