Vehicle trade in/financing questions

I am looking at a newer vehile and have some questions about trade in / financing options.

I am most likely going to be getting my new loan through a credit bureau. When I go to to the dealer to get my new vehicle will they accept my trade in since I am not getting my loan through them? Also with the credit bureau consider my truck as my partial down payment?

Sonic04Edge Nov 1, 2011 12:14 AM

Yeah they will take the trade regardless of who finances it. If not they would lose a lot of business. How many miles are on your truck?

Lord Of War Nov 1, 2011 12:29 AM

107K. I'm pretty sure that is lower than average mileage.

Sonic04Edge Nov 1, 2011 12:31 AM

Considering its almost a 10 year old truck with reasonable miles I imagine a dealer will offer 5-6k for trade most likely. Unless its at ford then maybe a bit more. You'd be better off selling it yourself. What are you looking to replace it with?

Lord Of War Nov 1, 2011 12:34 AM

I wont take anyless then $6,000 for it I really need/want $6500. I know I'm better of selling it myself which I am probably going to try first. I just cant be without a vehicle for more then a week.

I am going to be buying a 2010-2011 F-150. I figure with the $6,000-$6500 for the Ranger plus the $3000+ cash I will be adding I should be able to get a nice used F-150 for about $375-$400 a month.

I would sell your truck privately, then pay off your loan and put the remainder down on the new truck.

Yup they will take the trade no matter what. And your credit bureau won't take it as a down payment.

With the incentives they are offering now you should be able to get a nice F150 for probably around $300 a month if you went 6 year loan. Especially if you are putting close to 10K down. But it all depends on your credit, price of trucks in CO, and what they give you for the ranger.

Ranger's been paid off for years.

I would like a 5 year loan to avoid paying more intrest than I have to. I have decent credit, I'm holding off just a little bit to overpass that 700 mark if possible.

they answered all the questions, but as for my $.02
take your truck to the dealer and tell him your looking at getting a F-150 (don't sign anything yet) and ask him what they would give you.
Whatever he comes back with, tell him $500 more than you really need, so say they offer you like 6k for it. tell him you need 7k. (since you need 6.5k) If they really want to sell you an F-150, they'd make it work.
You could also do the ol' "well, if you guys can't give me 7k for my truck, i guess i'll have to take my business elsewhere" I did that when buying my Fiances Buick and they dropped the price another 3k altogether.

Yeah I understand that. Try looking for a new 2010. Maybe they have a left over and it will be dirt cheap. Otherwise you could wait until spring next year and look for a new 2011 that is a leftover.

You'll get the best deals on those.

Yup, if they want to make a deal they will!

Get the longest loan and cheapest payment you can.

Nothing saying you can't pay $400 on your $300 a month payment.

If you ever get into hard times you can fall back a little.

I paid so much on my truck for a while that My minimum payment was $80 at one time lol

Another Ranger gone, 5.0 or Ecoboost?

I'm pretty sure I cant get in to a Ecoboost for $400 a month. I would love to but dont see it happening.

I've been doing research and some people say to settle on a price of the vehicle you want before you bring up the trade... as to give the dealer less bargaining tools. I want to get the best deal possible obviously.

I'm going to have to actually go to some dealers and see what they have. I think alot of the dealers dont put everything on their website. I would imagine they would give a killer deal on a 2010 here in the next few months.

The ecoboost is only a $900 option. When I traded my ranger I told the dealer I needed 15k for my ranger, and I would walk if I couldn't get it. They gave me what I wanted. Didn't get that much off the sticker of the 150 though. My price negotiation was done on my trade. You can try not mentioning your trade. My guess is that your not going to negotiate a good price on the new truck and then drop the trade on them and get what you want for it.

wyldechild Nov 1, 2011 11:02 AM

F150 FTW.

If you decide to sell privately, you can drive the Bronco until you get into your new truck. But ONLY if you give me some good deals on mods.

Lord Of War Nov 1, 2011 11:20 AM

If the dealer asking price is $28,500 what price do you think they would accept?

04blackedge Nov 1, 2011 11:29 AM

Make sure you know the invoice price before negotiating, you can look it up online or ask the dealer for a copy of the print invoice. Go off of that to choose a price to negotiate off of.

Do this go for used vehicles too?

I know options will play into this. Looking at USED 2011 F-150, XLT, Supercrew, 5.0L, 4x4.

There are about 10 trucks in Denver that have less than 20k miles and they are asking less than $29,000.

I'm not sure on that, some reason I thought you were looking at a new '11. Sorry!

Sonic04Edge Nov 1, 2011 12:51 PM

Honestly I would go new. Between the incentives and you will get a better loan on a new truck and with the trade plus 3k down you will be well into the positive of the vehicles value.

Lord Of War Nov 1, 2011 01:13 PM

Well to get the incentives dont you have to a credit score of like 750+?

EDIT: also what incentives do dealers usually offer?

98liftedranger Nov 1, 2011 01:24 PM

No, the incentives go with the sales. Its your interest rate that will change with your credit score.

This is what Ford is offering out here now.
