Vibrations/Shakes
Vibrations/Shakes
2009 Mazda b2300
130000km / 80ish-k miles
Manual transmission
In the last year;
- All new brakes front/rear (everything, the works)
- New shocks
- Lower Balljoints
- Wheel bearings
- U-joints.
- Tires
- Alignment
- Brake Hoses
- Exhaust
- Outer tie rods
- Fuel filter
- All new lights and light casings.
- As well as general maintenance (air filter, oil, etc..)
The only thing I'm putting off is that PVC valve..heh.
Anyways, basically doing a soft restoration on the thing since its got low miles and is paid off. The body needs a bit of work but nothing serious, plan on tackling it and repainting the whole truck this summer. The frame has rust for sure.. but thats Canada.
So, I get seemingly sporadic vibrations/shaking, as well as vibration when braking.
Usually happens at highway speeds and feels like it's everywhere in the truck. Steering wheel has some jump, the armrest between me and my wife is an elegant elbow massager.
It's not every day or consistent, but when it happens it happens and it's very noticeable and makes me feel like I'm re-entering the atmosphere lol.
As you can see by my list of recent repairs I've tried to attack all the common problems. I've also suspected maybe upper balljoints or control arm bushings ? Best I've done is the old crow bar wiggle test while it's jacked up and can't really find any play anywhere.
Just to be clear I did measure my rotor runout with one of my machining dials, both rotors run out at .001 inch, and as I said they are basically brand new (I only put about 10000km/6000 miles a year on this truck). So I doubt it's the rotors, and it wouldn't account for the vibration while not braking.
I'm putting a lot of time and money into the truck because I love it and want it to last and this last problem is driving me nuts.
I've read many posts about people complaining about "The Ranger Vibration" and it just is what it is...
I thought I'd just put this out there, see if anyone has any thoughts. I do get the old goose honk going over bumps so I'm sure I've got dry bushing somewhere.
Thanks

Check rims to make sure they aren't bent or have mud in them. Try rotating and balancing the tires. Then give it an alignment.
Are you losing any steering fluid? Check the boot on rack and pitman. As sporadic as symptoms are its probably something minor at this point.

Had Rims and tires all checked as well as an alignment done last summer. The problem started before then.
