Want to mod, but want to keep warranty (some mods listed)
 

I have a new ranger, still under warranty of course.

I talked to the sales rep and he basically told me that doing mods would void my warranty. Now, I am familiar with the law that says they have to prove that the mod is at fault. However, I also know that a dealership can say too bad, and there's basically nothing you can do except try to find another dealership who will do it... or sue them.

I'm eventually looking to do some of the following mods, and I was wondering if any of these I could easily remove and there would be no evidence of modding, or that are basically guaranteed to be hassle free:

- HID Kit
- E-Fan
- Bama Chip
- Upgraded exhaust
- Lift and/or level it (non t-bar crank) w/ bigger tires
- Custom Intake

Just for the heck of it I listed my preferred mods first.

thr HID kit will void any warranty item dealing with your headlights

with the bama programer you get a stock setting so just put it back to that when u take it in (they will never know)

the exhaust will just void the catback part of ur warranty

intake will just void the airbox/maf/etc

lift will void your suspension warranty

and i am not sure about the efan

if the dealer says anything else they are just full of BS

hids i think will be ok. the tuner will be ok because you can put the pcm back to stock specs. intake you can always put back to stock if you want. or you can do the airbox mod. not sure about the e-fan, exhaust or lift. someone else will chime in.

- Bama Chip- I think it has a stock setting for whenn you need to take it in.
- Upgraded exhaust- will not be removable/ slim cahnce of it messing anything up(stick with a reputable shop).
- Lift and/or level it (non t-bar crank) w/ bigger tires- Probally wont mess anything up,but not easily removable if it does
- Custom Intake- could void it so take it out- easy to remove/ reinstall.

should be a good start from there man and keep the warranty. As usual and in my experiences anyway with my moms car, the dealer will blame any problems on the mods provided it is related. -Mike-

P.S I admire folks who can take a brand new car/truck drive it home, say the hell with the warranty and just start moddin the hell out of it. -Mike-

With regards to the bama tuner, does the computer have any alert that lets the dealership know the computer has been tampered with? I'm kind of worried that if a CEL pops up or anything they could see that "Oh look, it says your computer was modified yesterday.... hrmm.... is this a tuner I see? good luck driving home"

i dont think the tuner will leave any "traces" like that. it just adjusts your computer for power and gas milage, tire size, rev limiter removal and governor removal. all can be put back to oem specs.

Another thing to consider before doing a mod is getting the truck inspected. Bear in mind that almost any kind of mod could cause a vehicle to fail. HID's for example , may be a point of contention with your local inspection center. I always go to the same place for my inspection and check out their views on these matters before I do anything.

the mods will not void the warranty of your truck.......they are just trying to get out of a warranty....
